" Ali Reynolds gets sacked for a younger newscaster, and then becomes involved in solving the mysterious death of her best friend, who has been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig;s disease.) She becomes a blogger, and a detective, while dealing with her own personal issues, including wrongful termination and divorce. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Kathryn Moore | 2/12/2014

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Laura | 2/5/2014

" It held my interest till the end, but the ending of this was just to easy. All neat and tidy and handed to you on a platter. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Mom | 1/27/2014

" Weak murder mystery with annoying view of self consciously "liberated" women as self pitying but perky-in-spite-of-it-all weaklings entitled to whatever they can extract from their husbands' assets. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Jenny | 1/26/2014

" This story followed how the main character, Ali Reynolds, dealt with things after she was laid off from her job working as a TV anchorwoman in Los Angeles, CA. Eventually events lead her back to Arizona where she stumbles into the mystery about her best friend's murder. This was a quick and fast paced read, but at times I wondered when the plot would get back to the mystery. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Barbara Ghylin | 1/23/2014

" I read this on ina couple of days. Now more of Ali Renyolds and her family make more sense. Maybe I'll read the other again. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Rachel | 1/20/2014

" Mystery... written in the form of a narrative and a blog. Very easy to follow. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Natalie | 1/18/2014

" This was a very readable and quick paced book. I really like the main character and will definitely read the next one in the series. It isn't world class literature but who wants to read world class lit all the time;O) "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Sandra | 1/7/2014

" I didn't think I was going to like it at first -- maybe a Joanna Brady backlash! However, I found that I did, in fact, enjoy it, and am looking forward to the next one. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Laura de Leon | 12/28/2013

" Now I want to go back and read the later book in the series that I didn't love. I think this strong introduction to Ali would make a huge difference. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Deb Mjaatvedt | 12/4/2013

" A quick read, mainly because it's pretty simplistic. I'm not sure how much of this book I'll remember tomorrow, and I won't be heartbroken about it anyway. I may give Jance another try, but I won't be in any hurry to do so. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Karen | 10/25/2013

" This is my third series read by J.A. Jance. I really like this character, Ali Reynolds, even more than Joanna Brady. Fast moving story, I will be reading more! "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Jan | 9/17/2013

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Debby Allen | 7/22/2013

" Felt kinda wandering, meandering. Was getting a little impatient, but it came together okay. Will try one more in the series, but am not convinced yet. Seriously strong female time. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Scott Whitney | 7/22/2013

" I had read Trial by Fire early in the year and decided I needed to start at the beginning of the series. I was very pleasantly surprised. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Carrie | 1/25/2013

" It was a good story, but the author kind of goes off on tangents that have nothing to do with anything. I would read another book by her. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 David | 8/9/2012

" Completely fooled by the ad. Read half of the book and still couldn't find the edge of the evil. Gave up. Maybe I should have read from the back of the book. "

" Okay - this book had some good parts but didn't have much of a plot and wasn't particularly well written. If you're looking for a good thriller/suspense novel, you can do better than this. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Phillis | 2/7/2012

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Karen | 11/26/2011

" I have been reading a lot of relatively "light" books this summer - just can't take anything too heavy. This was a good mystery, and it looks like it might be the beginning of a series. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Jackie | 10/29/2011

" If you like a fast mystery read you can never go wrong with Jance. Ali Reynolds is a new likeable character. But Joanna Brady is still my favorite! "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 April | 5/22/2011

" My first Ali Reynolds novel. I see bits of Jance's phraseology, but seems more separated than her other series. I liked the blog and e-mail conversation aspects. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Margaret | 5/11/2011

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Terri | 5/3/2011

" It was alright. It seemed to be lacking depth and I figured out "whodunit" early on in the book. It didn't really keep me guessing. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Julie | 4/15/2011

" This was so bad, it was like a joke. How is this person a bestselling author? "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 JoDee | 4/6/2011

" I thought it would be too much to hope that J A Janice could introduce a third captivating character I have loved JP Beaumont, and Joanna Brady. At first I was resistant, but Ali grows on you. Great stories, and a good series that is still building. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Lee | 3/25/2011
