Publisher Description

This wonderful series opens with the back drop of the Wars of the Roses with the marriage between Eleanor Morland and a scion of the influential house of Beaufort. It is a union which establishes the powerful Morland dynasty and in the succeeding volumes of this rich tapestry of English life, we follow their fortunes through war and peace, political upheaval and social revolution, times of pestilence and periods of plenty, and through the vicissitudes which afflict every family - love and passion, envy and betrayal, birth and death, great fortune and miserable penury.

The Morland Dynasty is entertainment of the most addictive kind.

"I could not put this book down! I like both historical fiction and family sagas. This work contained both. It takes place during the turbulent end of the Plantagents and rise of the Tudors in England. Using that already dramatic history as a background for the equally operatic lives of the Morland family, Harrod-Eagles weaves a riveting tale with a strong matriarch at the center (gotta love that). This is a series with quite a few titles and I can't wait for the number two to arrive at my library branch!"

" This book is long and is a rather slow read. I get why: it's setting up a foundation (get it!?!) for a dynasty. However I was a little disappointed by the lack of character development. This novel, however, is great for its historical backdrop. I'll probably give the second in the series a shot as well. "

" I have read great reviews about this series and was really looking forward to getting stuck in. However I have to say that I was reallly disappointed. I didn't feel like I could get to know any of the characters (except Eleanor, whom I could not like at all). The book was simply weighed down with far too many facts and too much information and I frequently found myself confused with who was who. I did try to persevere and read the next book but sadly didn't get on with that either. "

" Over several years of visits to my local library, I sampled Harrod-Eagles' series on English history. I never tried to read them in order, and I must admit, although they are quite adequately written, none of them stayed in my memory. Two stars then, for the books in general. "

" I love historical fiction and this beginning book in this series was definitely not a disappointment. Although I did have a few problems keeping up with the names, I thoroughly enjoyed the story. The details were great and the story was good. I can't wait to read the next one! "

" This is an entertaining book. Will I continue with the series? Yes, because the author manages to make the history of England as important of a character as the Morlands. Not the best written historical fiction I've read but it does work for historical brain candy. "

" The book is all in all a great read. Eleanor is truly a strong and determined woman of her time. She shows great strength in keeping her family together. The background history of the narrative reads well and real. The story spans a long range of England's Dark Age. Educational. "

" This is a 32 book series. This book traces the Morland family from the wedding of Robert Morland to Eleanor Courteney in 1434 until Eleanor's death in 1486 at age 70. I really enjoyed this book and hope to get the next one soon. "
