" After reading a book from this series last year & posting a negative review, I was urged to read another in the series by a friend who said that the earlier books were better than the later ones of the series. This is not true. This book was worse (if that is even possible) than the book that I read last year. The characters in the series are awful one-dimensional people & the plot is just boring and far fetched. "

" # 2 in the Goldy Bear Colorado caterer mystery series. This mystery is a bit convoluted and it takes a while for the various plot lines to come together. As usual in this series, Goldy finds herself involved in murder and harassment by her abusive exhusband. However, this one has a few more story lines thrown in as well. A somewhat distracting plot element in the early novels of the series, is Goldy's struggle with dealing her young son who can be a pain in the butt as well as Goldy's attempts to appease him while feeling like an inadequate mother. " Maybe because I started with this book and not the first in the series, I wasn't totally enthralled. I liked the story, I liked that the book contained recipes. I wasn't sure I totally understood the characters. Something in the narrative style leaves me questioning why certain characters behave in certain ways. I'm not left with a sense of mystery about them, but rather with a sense of discord, as if what the characters do and say does not jive with how they're being described. Despite this, I'll definitely read more of the series, if only to keep up with some of the very yummy-sounding recipes. :) "
