Frazer Hines reads this exciting novelization of a classic Doctor Who adventure.

The world is held in the grip of a new ice age and faces total destruction from the rapidly advancing glaciers.

Doctor Who, with Victoria and Jamie, lands at a top scientific base in England, where they have just unearthed an ancient ice warrior. Aliens from Mars, preserved in the ice for centuries and now revitalized, the ice warriors feel ready to take over.

Can the Doctor overcome these warlike Martians and halt the relentless approach of the ice glaciers?

Frazer Hines, who played Jamie in Doctor Who, reads Brian Hayles’ complete and unabridged novelization.

“This original 1967 television soundtrack is considered one of the early ‘lost’ episodes of the long-running BBC series…Two of the original five video reels are forever lost from this episode, but the complete soundtrack remains. The sound effects and filtered voices of the aliens are so very 1960s, illustrating just how much groundbreaking and creative audio production work went into the series. Frazer Hines has an enjoyable time adding linking narration and a short bonus interview to the story. Long live Doctor Who.”

Quotes

  • “BBC Audiobooks has chosn well with its books and has taken the right approach with its readers…They benefit from new music and sound effects.”

    — Doctor Who Magazine
  • “The Ice Warriors is bristling with clever ideas even if many of them aren’t its own; exhumed from creeping glacial ice, resurrected Ice Warrior Varga can’t help but recall The Thing from Another World (in all its incarnations), but the siting of the story’s core location, the Britannia Base battling to hold back the encroaching ice field during a new Ice Age far in the future, within the walls of an Edwardian country house, is typical off-the-wall quirky Doctor Who.”
