History books don’t always tell the whole story. Certainly there is no record of an episode that occurred when the Scots, led by Bonnie Prince Charlie, were defeated by the English at the Battle of Culloden in 1746—and the presence at the time of a blue police box on the Scottish moors seems to have escaped the notice of most eye-witnesses …
The Highlanders sets the record straight. And while the incidents described may not be of great interest to historians, for Jamie McCrimmon they mark the beginning of a series of extraordinary adventures. Anneke Wills, who played the Doctor’s companion Polly in the original BBC TV serial, narrates Gerry Davis’ complete and unabridged novelization.

"A lovely fun read. The Second Doctor is as delightful as the modern version, saving his friends with cleverness and drag. Ben and Polly aren't too shabby either. This story also introduces the wonderful Jamie. A real treat for fans of the Doctor!" — Elisabeth (4 out of 5 stars)

" Gerry Davis' best novelization. Concise, exciting, and with a surprisingly romantic re-interpretation of Polly's relationship with an English redcoat, this is excellent work. Highly recommended. "
Gerry Davis (1930–1991) was a British television writer best known for his contributions to the science fiction genre. From 1966 until the following year Davis was the script editor of the popular BBC series Doctor Who, for which he created the character Jamie McCrimmon and cocreated the popular cybernetic monsters known as the Cybermen. He also adapted several of his scripts into novels for Target Books’ Doctor Who imprint. With Kit Pedler he cowrote the science fiction novels Mutant 59: The Plastic Eaters, Brainrack, and The Dynostar Menace.
Anneke Wills studied drama at the Arts Educational School in London and quickly became one of the busiest actresses of her generation. She appeared in Doctor Who from 1966 to 1967 alongside William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton—the first in a long line of glamorous Doctor Who girls. Other television credits include appearances in The Avengers and as Evelyn in Strange Report.
