About the Authors

Niall Boyce is a writer and editor based in London. He has previously published short stories in magazines, including Litro and Dark Horizons, and with Big Finish’s Doctor Who and Bernice Summerfield audio dramas. He has also provided nonfiction material for classic Doctor Who DVDs. Other related work includes journal articles on artists, such as the cartoonist Ronald Searle and the Victorian painter Richard Dadd.

Steve Case is one of America’s most accomplished entrepreneurs, a pioneer who made the Internet part of everyday life and orchestrated the largest merger in the history of business. His career began when he cofounded America Online (AOL) in 1985. After he engineered AOL’s merger with Time Warner and he became chairman of the combined business, he oversaw the biggest media and communications empire in the world.

Lawrence Conquest is a short-story writer and contributor to the Doctor Who series of audio dramas. He wrote “How to Play Four-dimensional Chinese Checkers, and Win” for the anthology Iris: Abroad and the short audio story “1963” for Short Trips: Volume 2.

Darren Goldsmith is a writer, musician, and digital artist. His Doctor Who short story, “Chain Reaction,” was featured in the Short Trips: Volume 2 audio collection.

John Bromley is a writer whose Doctor Who short story “The Doctor’s Coat” appeared in the Short Trips: Volume 2 audio collection.

James Moran is a British screenwriter for television and film who wrote the horror-comedy Severance. He has written for the horror, comedy, science-fiction, historical fiction, and spy-thriller genres.

Nigel Fairs is a British actor, writer, and composer. He trained at Bretton Hall College and as an actor has worked on television, theatre, radio, and film, performing everywhere from the West End to HM Prison Holloway! As a writer he has more plays produced than William Shakespeare, and six musicals. He has also written a large number of murder mystery scripts, which are performed throughout the world.

Hans Christian Andersen (1805–1875) was born in Odense, Denmark, the son of a poor shoemaker and a washerwoman. As a young teenager, he became quite well known in Odense as a reciter of drama and as a singer. When he was fourteen, he set off for the capital, Copenhagen, determined to become a national success on the stage. He failed miserably, but made some influential friends in the capital who got him into school to remedy his lack of proper education. In 1829 his first book was published. After that, books came out at regular intervals. His stories began to be translated into English as early as 1846. Since then, numerous editions, and more recently Hollywood songs and Disney cartoons, have helped to ensure the continuing popularity of the stories in the English-speaking world.

About the Narrators

William Russell was born in Sunderland, County Durham. He became interested in acting at an early age and was involved with organizing entertainment during his time with the Royal Air Force. He appeared in Hamlet in London’s West End and went on to appear in a number of films and television shows, including The Great Escape, Doctor Who, and Superman.

Katy Manning is a British actress who has appeared in numerous films and television series. She is best known for her role as Jo Grant in seventy-seven episodes of Doctor Who in the early 1970s.

Louise Jameson is a British actress who has appeared widely on both the stage and screen. She is perhaps best known for her role as the Fourth Doctor’s companion in the hit sci-fi series Doctor Who. Her other credits include EastEnders, Bergerac, and Doc Martin.

Peter Davison portrayed the fifth incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who from 1981 to 1984. More recently he starred in the television series The Last Detective, based on the Dangerous Davies novels by Leslie Thomas, and Distant Shores for ITV. In 2011 he took a major recurring role on Law & Order: UK. In addition to acting, he is also a songwriter and has provided the themes to Button Moon and My Hero.

Andy Lane has written a number of well-reviewed novels based on various television series, including Doctor Who. In addition, he has written ten nonfiction books on various aspects of film and television, eleven original short stories for various magazines and anthologies, and a television script for Sky One.

Sophie Aldred is an English actress and television presenter best known for her role as Ace in the popular BBC television series Doctor Who during the late 1980s.

India Fisher is a British actress and voice artist. She has appeared in the television series Dead Ringers and provided the voice for the character of Sophia Winchell in the BBC animated webcast series Ghosts of Albion. She narrates BBC One’s cookery program MasterChef and performs voice-overs for television advertisements. She has also appeared in several episodes of the BBC Radio 4 comedy series Elephants to Catch Eels and has provided voices on a number of science-fiction audio dramas.

Neil Hellegers grew up in New Jersey and attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a BA in theater arts and a minor in psychology before getting an MFA in acting from the Trinity Rep Conservatory in Providence, Rhode Island. He moved to New York City in 2003 and, since then, has made a career of theatrical performance, percussion, theater education, and audiobook narration. He currently lives in Brooklyn with his wife and son.
