Publisher Description

When Evie Walker goes home to spend time with her dying father, she discovers that his creaky old house in Hope's Fort, Colorado, is not the only legacy she will inherit. Hidden behind the basement door is a secret and magical storeroom, a place where wondrous treasures from myth and legend are kept safe until they are needed again.

Of course, this legacy is not without its costs: There are those who will give anything to find a way in.

With the help of her father, a mysterious stranger named Alex, and some unexpected heroes, Evie must guard the storeroom against ancient and malicious forces, and protect both the past and the future even as the present unravels. Old heroes and notorious villains alike rise to fight on her side or to do their best to bring about her defeat.

At stake is the fate of the world and the prevention of nothing less than the apocalypse.

"I really didn't expect I'd care for this book, but I ended up finding it enthralling. The one primary quibble I have with it is actually its name. All of the other mythological figures are referred to by their Greek names; therefore, it shouldn't be Discordia, but Eris."

" This was an odd book. Unlike her 'Kitty' series, it doesn't occur in our world, but rather a very similar world only with the world on the brink of disaster. It brings in the ancient Greek gods and goddesses, as well as a couple other people from the time of Troy and the destruction thereof. At first I thought it read like the first in a series-a lot of set-up, learning who's who and why they're important. Then we come to the end. Can't say I'm a fan of the ending. Still, getting to that part was fun and entertaining, and I really liked Alex/Sinon and his story. His story ended well, I thought. "

" Great premise. It's a decent book with good writing. Original concept. I could have, however, done without the stuff about her writing. It seemed pointless to me and had nothing to do with the plot. "

" Finished this book today at lunch and I thought it was an interesting read. The heroine was good, but didn't know everything which is always a positive. The hero was interesting, but I would've liked to see more of his struggle, without it he seems a little cardboard to me. The story takes place in America but it's an America under martial law and one step away from nuclear war - I would've enjoyed learning more about what brought the country to the brink like that. Loved the ties to the various mythologies! I'm not sure if I'll read it again at some point, but I'm certainly glad I gave this one a shot. "

" I like Vaughn's "Kitty" books, but after reading Discord's Apple and After the Golden Age she's moved up to my "autobuy" list. Her exploration of themes of mythology, ancient and modern, brings a fresh look to cultural tropes and folklore. "

" In the near future the world faces one major disaster after another, magic is reemerging and myths are interweaving with reality. Evie Walker finds herself the keeper of a story room of magical item waiting for their owners and the object of interest of a man who can not die. "
