"One of the other reviewers said that her rating of this book might fluctuate according to mood, etc, and I would have to agree with her assessment. Sometimes I recall it as being fantastic, other times it just seems like it was a decent read. I do remember it being tense and fast-paced - it even made me want to jump at unexplained noises from time to time... However, I wouldn't say it was up there with my favorite Stephen King novels. It's a solid work (and a solid book - this is one of his door-stop novels!) and if you like a variety of Stephen King books then you will probably enjoy this one." — Heather (4 out of 5 stars)

" Good book, but you must read the Regulators first. "
" This book is very confusing. I have read the book about 4 times and I have seen the movie about 2 times. It has been one of my favorites since the 5 grade. "
" Keeps you reading to find out what happens next!! "
" I had to start it three times but loved! "
" This was my first Stephen King book. While not my favorite genre, I couldn't keep it down. He's an excellent writer. However, I recommend not reading before bed. "
" Lol ... this book is really really REALLY disturbing. Took me while to get though it coz I kept getting a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach by how the plot was developing and would stop reading it. Stephen truly is the master of horror. "
" King at his best. The characters in the book are described with fantastic detail and the story is nothing short of fancinatingly scary. Top recommended book "
" I thought I would give Stephen King a try, but I have to say that I wasn't impressed with this book. "
" I read this book while my 11 yr old daughter was getting cancer treatment. It was a good distraction, but I was still more desperate. Even more that Desperate Housewives, too. "
" I love how King ties all his books together - this one ties right up with "The Regulators" "
" Very enjoyable. Creepy, good characters...perfect to keep me entertained in between the Stephen King greats (in my opinion, The Dark Tower series, The Stand, Bag of Bones, Carrie...these are at the top of my list). "
" Book on tape version. Boring. Semi enjoyed Kathy Bates reading of it. "
" typical stephen king book... good plot, characters believable, monster outrageous. i enjoyed it "
" AWESOMEEE. I learned heaps about mines and stuff. The Tak guy was interesting, and the power stone thing! "
" I really think this is one of King's very best straight up horror books. A true horror epic - right up there with "The Stand." "
" I only read half it was so sad, but a really good book if you can't stand it. "
" Not King's best, but still compulsively readable. "
" I haven't seen the movie yet but the book gave me nightmares! Please read this book. "
" Images of this book still haunt me. The little girl on a jacket hanger. a greased up boy trying to get through bars. THis book was so well written but has the same fate as many of kings books. Disapointing endings. "
" This is a compelling book that draws you in. The end is VERY deep -- and might surprise you. "
" This was the first 'horror' book I ever read, and it scared the hell outta me. Still terrified of small towns. "
" This book was a pretty good ride. I am always ready to take his wicked rides. It's just that his endings tend to, well, suck. This one wasn't a completely happy ending and I was left more satisfied than usual. "
" Difficult to get into for the first couple of chapters. Then captivating... "
" I liked how King created a visual scope for this novel. The action was much more hard-hitting than some of his other novels. I enjoyed the battle between good and evil in this one. "
" I know I read this, but I can't remember which is probably not a good sign... "
" Another Stephen King great! Multiple reads required. "
" If you've ever driven down a deserted desert road and felt that prickle of fear along your spine at what could happen and nobody would know, this book will keep you rivited and at the edge of your seat from beginning to end. "
" Scared the hell out of me. Couldn't read it at night. "
" This book was insane! I actually bought the movie and watched it while reading this book. Great story! "
" Desperation is a really good book - but I would read it along with The Regulators (Richard Bachman). It doesn't matter in what order you read them. It's a great example of how the same basic concept can be twisted in more the one way. Both are excellent books. "
