" If ever I need to escape into the hills to escape the plague, I would want the ten story tellers in this book to be holed up with me. Though written in plague-ridden 14th century Italy, the stories transcend the time and place and can almost be read as a catalog of all that humans can get up to. Nothing is sacred as religion, love and sex, power, money and a surprisingly high number of wine barrels are all jostling in the stories. "
