"This book was SUCH a treat! I have been wanting to get ahold of a book like this for a long time so I was thrilled to see My Father's World homeschool catalog had this for sale. It was truly fascinating to learn of where so many of our great hymns come from. What surprised me, though, I guess it shouldn't be a surprise- was how so many of these hymns were born of tragedy. Very sad all the sorrowful stories, but at the same time fitting how God used such hard times to bring about songs that continue to speak to the hearts and souls of millions. In addition to the touching stories of inspiration, I also very much enjoyed the format. This book has been published on what appears to be old fashioned, rugged paper and also has the music for all the songs in the book written out so that it may be used as piano sheet music, as well. This book could not be improved on- PERFECT! Highly recommend."

" I agree that there are hymns I was curious about that are not in this book. However, you can't fit them all into one book. This is a GREAT start. I enjoyed the arrangements of the hymns as well as reading about their beginnings. "

" This is more like a song book with histories behind the songs written there. Good outlook and pretty complete. I just hope they will come up with the second and the third book to collect as many songs as possible. "
