Publisher Description

There's a body buried behind a Mississippi farmhouse. Grace Montgomery knows who it is, and she knows why it happened. She was only 13 the night it all went wrong. And now, like then, she has no choice but to keep her mouth shut.

Grace left the town of Stillwater 13 years ago, trying to forget, trying to make good. As an assistant D.A. in Jackson, she's finally achieved the success that was supposed to change her life. But it hasn't, so she's come back to confront her own history. Which means returning to the farmhouse now owned by her brother and facing the people of Stillwater, a number of whom suspect the truth.

Widower Kennedy Archer is one of those people. He's running for mayor and needs to stay as far away from Grace as possible. And yet, she's an enigma he can't resist. Even though her enemies are close to finding out what really happened...and that could ruin them both.

"It was good. I really liked the heroine, but I never fell in love with the hero. She head-hopped a bit too much and there was too much author-intrusive backstory. There was some good suspense, and once it picked up, which was about the fourth or fifth chapter, it really became a page turner. "

" At first I was intrigued by the story. But then nothing happened. I kept reading in case something would happen. It's more romance than mystery. "

" 3.5* Good writing, good tension, hateful secondary characters. This is a good book and the reasons I have for not liking it as much at it probably deserved is that I really hated the secondary characters. There is only so much prejudice and verbal abuse I can stand. The main characters, Grace and Kennedy, were great, and so were Kennedy's two sons. I'm not sure I want to read any more of the trilogy just because it feels stressful. However, if a good dose of tension is your cup of tea, then this book is definitely well written and well-plotted. I'm going to try another book of Novak's from a different series. "
