Publisher Description

Detective Inspector Frank Elder's first case was unsolved. A dead woman, lying on a bed, immaculately dressed. The murderer was never found: free to kill again. Eight years later, Elder's estranged wife contacts him in his Cornish hideaway. Her friend's sister Claire has mysteriously disappeared. Elder reluctantly agrees to help. Then Claire is found dead, arranged with meticulous detail on her bed, and it doesn't take long for Elder to make the connection. It's obviously the work of the same unbalanced individual. And to find the killer, Elder must shine a light into the darkest recesses of human behaviour.

"I kind of like this 'Frank Elder' storyline. I think I'll also check out Harvey's 'Charlie Resnick' series. Police-type procedurals, I suppose one would characterize these as..."

" Well written murder/detective mystery - though the library copy I read had some grammatical corrections penned in by a previous reader. I found that there were too many coincidences and red herrings for the plot to be plausible. "

" I enjoyed it, a different slant on a detective story. However not easy to build up a rapport with Frank the main character. A good holiday read. "

" I probably would have like this more if I'd read the two previous books about this character; it was a decent enough police mystery but I kept feeling I was missing out on the background info. "

" Yay! A new mystery writer that I like, and with lots of titles! Found by chance in my sister's room. Score. "

" Enjoyed this book. Good police work story and saves the mystery resolution till the end. Very quick read. "

" Solid police procedural with a straight-arrow detective without much to make him either unlikeable or very memorable either. The writing and mystery are respectable, set in Cornwall and Nottingham. Good bedtime reading; no reason why I probably won't pick up another by this writer... "

" Have read a couple of his before, so expected a good experience from this one....... Well, it was a quick and easy page turner. Just OK for me. I'm sure his other books are OK too - but I probably won't get to them in THIS lifetime! "

" Reasonable detective fair. Too much about the detective's (Frank Elder) personal life for my liking, although a satisfactory enough read. One for the library (and if you know me, you should know what that means). "

" Police detective Frank Elder comes out of retirement to find a friend's missing sister in Nottingham, England. Elder is a fine writer who know how to advance a plot. "

" I prefer Harvey's Charlie Resnick to Frank Elder, but both series are well-written. This plot was just a tad tired. Quick read though. Especially if you skip the bits about his personal life, which are predictable. "
