Publisher Description

She came in the rain. Alone. On a bicycle. Annie and Max Darling are completely unprepared when the arrival of a mysterious young woman shocks their sea island and stirs up more than just gossip. It turns out that Iris, the beautiful stranger, is a former resident of Broward's Rock. Her arrival throws the normally happy town into a downward spiral that pits neighbor against neighbor. Things take a turn for the worse when Annie befriends Iris and invites her to attend the Darlings' party at the pavilion where Death is the uninvited guest. Suddenly, Max and Annie find themselves in the middle of a fight they don't understand and at the mercy of an unknown assailant who's trying to kill them—and all they know is that it is one of their friends.

"I had my doubts about this book. It is, after all, about a darling couple named Darling. Seems that she owns a book store in a small town on a small island that focuses on mysteries. She's native to the community and returned with her darling husband to live and love. Seems also that death practically comes to her door and takes up residence. It all sounds too trite and contrived. Well, it is all that and very fun and interesting. The mystery continues throughout the book with some guesses about the villan but no real clear leads. Fast, good read that was fun and had my brain working through most of the book. I'll read another even if it's not a free Nook book."

" I liked this book enough that I will look for others in the series. I got it as a free book, and so I haven't read any of the others in the series which put me at a bit of disadvantage. I like the concept of the bookstore that she owns and the references to other mystery writers and their books. "

" I don't know why I always think I have to finish every book I start! This story is sort of a semi-grown up Nancy Drew. Characters seem shallow and sketchy. By the time I find out who did it I hope I feel as if I know some of the key players. It does flow and some descriptions are really good but there are much better stories out there. I have to rethink Nook's free fridays. "

" It has been a few years since I last visited Annie and Max...not sure why. I have read Hart's other series too, but more recently. I enjoyed getting back with the Darlings; good story, no heroes to stupid to live, no heroes thinking they would be better able to solve the crime than the local PD. A good, pleasant summer read. "

" It was free on the nook. I was developing a respiratory infection. There were lots of characters and for some reason I couldn't keep them straight. My frequent naps didn't help, but I can't say for sure that they were all caused by illness, as the book never grabbed me. Kept looking at page # to see how soon it would all be wrapped up. "

" When Annie Darling volunteers to help at a friend's vacation cabins, she meets Iris, a native of Broward's Rock who has been away for many years. Iris fled the island after the deaths of two high school classmates, twins, and went through prolonged periods of substance abuse and homelessness. Now, clean and sober, she wants to redress a long-past mistake. But when Iris dies, Annie--who had the opportunity to learn about her life--becomes number one target for a murderer. "

" My first Death on Demand book. I really liked the premise, the characters, and the writing style. However, I guessed the murderer's identity in the beginning of the book. I don't want my mysteries to be that easy for me to solve. I will try another though. "

" A new mystery series for me... very enjoyable as an audio book. Great narrator! I was able to solve the mystery. I'm not sure whether that's because I'm becoming used to the mystery format or because it was easy to solve in this book. In any event, a good listen! "
