Publisher Description

"I really enjoyed this book. I procrastinated reading it but once I did I couldn't put it down. It takes place during 1961 when Fidel Castro took over Cuba and basically brainwashed the people. It's a story of a girl and her family in Cuba and their trials before and after she is sent to America. It is so good and I would recommend it to anyone. It makes me so happy to be part of this country and to have the freedoms that I have."

" This was a quick read, geared toward young teens. I had no idea so many kids were sent by their families from Cuba. What an incredibly tough decision for the parents to have to make. "

" I connected with Lucia immediately. I could see my 14 year old self in her tantrums and her thinking. I also could connect with how, all on a sudden, she had to grow up. This has become one of my all time favorite books! "

" Gripping narrative about a historical event of which I was completely ignorant - the evacuation of some 14,000 Cuban children to America, without their parents, in the early days under Castro. I want my kids to read it in a few years. "

" One Sentence Review: The writing's strong but the black and white characterizations (everyone who agrees with Castro is eeeeeeeevil) I could have done without. "
