"Like most of the reading I've done on Buddhism, this had some real gems and some truly boring elements. I appreciate that this author seems to have a more moderate approach to applying these principles to real life. Most Buddhist authors spend all their time locked up in monasteries so their life has little application to mine. I hope that I am slowly absorbing some of these principles. They have helped tremendously through the past year. Certain snippets of this will stick with me for sure and I will come back to them over time."

" A great start to understanding Buddhist philosophy. Pema Chodron speaks in American metaphors allowing better understanding of the Buddha's and Bodhisattvas teachings. A great "starter" book to begin the middle path. "

" Chodron writes in a very clear style. The book has a natural evolution, explaining Buddhist theories/techniques, then showing how they expand for not only personal compassion, but also compassion for others. Recommended! "

" Pema Chodron writes from a buddhist perspective on how to face difficult times. Clear-eyed, honest, direct, and simple, this nun tells it like it is. Her words are immensly helpful whether you are facing a difficult time or not. "

" My favorite Pema Chodron book and my favorite dharma book, period. Despite the title, this book applies to daily life as much as to extraordinary circumstances. Pema Chodron conveys Buddhist concepts in a way that preserves their depth but is accessible and warm. I highly recommend this book. "

" This book offers amazing insight for those going through rough times. Pema Chodron offers us advice so contrary to what we want to do, move towards the pain rather than away from it. She makes Buddhism so accessable in this book, yet you do not have to be buddhist to benefit from its teachings. "
