Novelist and professional companion Evangeline Ames has rented a cottage in the outskirts of Little Dixby, far from the London streets where she was recently attacked. Fascinated by the paranormal energy of nearby Crystal Gardens, she finds some pleasurable diversion in sneaking past the wall to explore the grounds. And when her life is threatened again, she instinctively goes to the gardens for safety.

Lucas Sebastian has never been one to ignore a lady in danger, even if she is trespassing on his property. Quickly disposing of her would-be assassin, he insists they keep the matter private. There is plenty of whispering about him already, with rumors of treasure buried under his garden, and occult botanical experiments performed by his uncle - who died of mysterious causes.

Immediately sensing each other's psychic talents, as well as their mutual desire, Lucas and Evangeline find themselves with an even more pressing concern. Whoever tried to have her killed will try again. But who would want her dead?

With Evangeline's skill for detection, and Lucas's sense of the criminal mind, they soon discover that they share a common enemy. And as the dangerous energy emanating from Crystal Gardens grows stronger, they realize that to survive they must unearth what has been buried for too long.

" Again with the sullen / nearly psychotic "Mr.Rochester" type male lead. Where is the protagonist that is charming and logical and well...happy? Am I the only one fed up with these tropes? Seems like every love interest has to have some deep angsting backstory. Two stars almost solely for carnivorous botanical experiments. "

" The newest paranormal romance by Jayne Ann Krentz writing as Amanda Quick. Excellent. "

" Typical Amanda Quick. Nothing really new or unusual, but a good addition to her paranormal series. I prefer the modern outings written as Jayne Ann krentz but these are enjoyable, escapist reads..... "

" I have read every one of Jayne Anne Krentz's books, both as her and Amanda Quick and I have loved all of them. This book, on the other hand, was very disappointing to me as it took 14 chapters before I really started to become interested in this book. I am a serious bibliofile and read an average or 2-4 books a week. This book took me 3 days before I could get really into it. It was very slow, plodding and hard to get interested in. Hopefully, the next one will be better. "

" I really enjoy the Arcane novels. This was no exception, I enjoyed the story, the adventure thru the maze. Good book. "

" It's another one of her paranormal crystal using story plots. I don't mind this is her Jayne Castle series but I'm sick of it in her Victorian one. It's nothing that hasn't come up before and the characters are quite dreary. When it comes to her writing these days I am suffering from ennui. "

" Krentz/Quick seems to be going through the motions more than usual here. I spent most of the book watching the not-so-subtle hand of the author push the characters into the usual predictable situations. "
