Cowgirl Kate and her horse, Cocoa, love getting up early and herding cattle on the range. They are the closest pals, even though they don't always see eye to eye.
When its time to wrangle the cattle, Kate is ready to go with her sharp cowboy hat and tough rawhide gloves, but Cocoa needs a little more encouragement. After a quick drink and a few apples, the two are off to the range to get to work. With Cocoa's help, Kate climbs trees, tells stories, counts the cows, and rides the range. And once their adventures get going, the two argue as only best buddies can do.
Erica Silverman's Cowgirl Kate and Cocoa is a recipient of the Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor and a treat for young listeners. Narrator Liz Morton perfectly captures the spirit of friendship and loyalty found in this delightful collection of stories.

"Four manageable chapters comprise this sweet tale of friendship between a girl and her trusty companion, perfect to reluctant reaaders. The artistic technique is really cool too. And might I add that I adore Cowgirl Kate's red cowboy boots! Très fierce! " — Courtney (4 out of 5 stars)

" The third book in the series is as refreshing as the first two books. I love the consistency in the humor and brief chapters that move the story along so nicely. In School Days, Kate and Cocoa work through separation anxiety and jealousy. "
" Good, but not as good as the first book. "
" I liked the horse Cocoa and the story. "
" Boy, did Kinley like this book. "
" Book #3 in the series. More charming fun, more western action, and more life lessons learned the cowgirl way. "
" Laugh out loud funny! Sort, basic text to encourage readers as they move into early chapter books. "
" Eliza loves the cowgirl Kate books! "
" Very cute early reader book. Reading the whole series and I hope there will be more of these books in the future! "
" No clue why this was nominated for a Geisel. It is not that good. It is not a horrible story, just dull, repetitive storytelling about a cowgirl and her cowhorse. "
" This series is for the beginning reader who loves horses, farms and the great outdoors. A delightful friendship between Kate and her horse Cocoa. Betsy Lewin's illustrations are vibrant and engaging. "
" When working on text-to-text connections, this book would be an excellent resource. It is similar to the Patricia Gallagher nominee, Sixteen Cows. Both are about cowgirls and students would be able to easily make connections. "
" The first in many about Cowgirl Kate and her talking horse. Very funny and very sweet. "
" Fun! Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor book "
" Kate read this to me while I was cooking! It's a pretty cute little story! "
" A beginning read book about cow girl Kate and her horse Cocoa. 4 short "chapters" each have a different story about Kate & Cocoa. "
" I didn't like this one (the original, the one that won all of the awards) as much as the ones that come after it. This one has attitude that I don't like. "
" Cute, short stories about a girl and her cowhorse. They are perfect for beginning readers. "
" This is one of Aaron's favorite books. A great gift for children under 7. There is also a very amusing sequel. "
" I liked when Cowgirl Kate fed him water and then went to go count the cows. "
