"After reading this, it was hard to believe Matt had a hard time getting this book published... Excellent storyline, fast paced and very gripping. I recommended the book to my mother-in-law and she cursed me for it. Seems she wasn't able to put the book down and lost a night's sleep for it. Definitely a must read for the "old school" sci-fi buffs out there. I found some themes that I haven't seen in 20+ years and I found that to be very enjoyable. I hope the movie script gets picked up and filmed, this would be a great story on the big screen." — Steve (4 out of 5 stars)

" First book I read by the author. Showcases his unique style of writing. Supposed to be making a movie out of this book. If they do, it will be something else!! "
" The blurb on the back cover really makes Contest sound appealing. Too bad it's only partially accurate. It starts off with a very "24-like" feel (trapped in a library, fighting bad guys for 24 hours) but when the aliens arrive, it goes off the rails. I finished it only because I was mildly curious how bad it was going to get. And it got plenty bad. "
" very good, I am not sure if it is because I work in a libary and this is where the book takes place or what, but this was a really good story, and really creepy at times... "
" He couldnt put it down "
" I loved this book. It was one of those really good yarns that makes you want to search out the author and read all the rest of his stuff. Thanks Matthew, it's such a rush when you 'discover' a story like this. I wanted to slow down my reading and make this book last. Unfortunately, it was like a box of chocolates and I just couldn't help myself. At least it hasn't made my butt look big. Hopefully... "
" Loved the audio nearly as much as the book or close enough, still gets 5 Stars. "
" Unusual for me not to enjoy a Mathew Reilly book but I just couldnt get into this one. It struck me as too childish. Having said that I loved his other books and they are by no means 'realistic'. "
" I became a huge Matther Reilly fan after reading this. Loved all his books, although the last two have tapered off a bit. "
" This book kept me turning the pages all into the night. But then the ending left you feeling cheated, it just kinda ended. "
" Absolutely thrilling. Cliffhanger's galore. I found it extremely hard to put this book down once I started it. A brilliant way to start reading Reilly's work. "
" Really enjoyed this book. Fast paced and intresting. "
" This is where my love for Matthew Reilly's books started. Totally unconventional and absolutely thrilling! Love it "
" mattew reilly is awesome in this book has action, aliens and a fight for surival 10/10 "
" His first and most constrained book and ite very good. "
" M R's first book, somewhat revised. This is different to all his others, but I think it's one of his best. "
" This book amazed me! So much action, such amazing writing. Felt like I was watching a movie! So intense "
" relentless action "
" Pure action "
" This is a huge diversion for me--my nephew left three by this author at my house. I tried to stop reading it a couple times, but just had to continue to see how it ended. It was predictable. "
" Kind of like watching bad TV when you want to watch bad TV. "
" The little info they gave about the book, drags you in. i loved it but it was a bit too sci-fi but very different. i throughly enjoyed it,and its a great read if your looking for something different and a thrill. "
" Its a page turner! i cant put the book down! "
" Awesome book! I couldn't put it down. When I read the back, I had a totally different image in my mind of what the book was about, he completely twisted the plot! It was a great read, non stop action literally. "
" The only time I seem to get to read these days is when we are on vacation with long plane rides. On the way back I read this book in about a day. It was very good and kept my interest throughout. I also read "Ice Station" by this author and thoroughly enjoyed it. "
" One of the best books i have read in a long time. A mixture of sci fi,action and drama this book is the best "
" An excellent airplane or beach book. The plot moves very quickly with lots of action. A good introduction to Reilly's guy-friendly books. Fabulous reads for teen boys. "
" fun & easy reading--good for teens "
" One of my all-time favorite books. The setting of this book was just ideal and the author mixed in just enough "weird" but did it in such a way as to make everything totally believable. New York Public Library, aliens and a kill-or-be-killed contest...doesn't get any better than this. "
" As his first book you can see the potential here. A good book to have on your shelf for those days where all you want is to be entertained, not necessarily challenged as a reader/human. "
" Listening to the CDs driving to work and back. "
" Entertaining, intense and a completely far-fetched read but it lacked that little something extra to turn from an average/good book to a great book. The main hero was a bit too unbelievable and the 8 year old daughter really wasn't needed. "
" Good old sci-fi thriller story. "
" his first but still good fun "
" An excellent thriller. Pretty much nonstop action and I finished it in just over a day. "
