Recent studies reflect that the current classroom approach for teaching religion fails to reach the majority of children, says Judith Dunlap. Referring to the book Will Our Children Have Faith?, she states that six institutions helped in the past to support Judeo-Christian values. Today these supports are absent. After studying and applying alternative models of catechesis for 11 years, Dunlap says we have to do things differently. The classroom is not enough.
A religious educator for over 25 years, Judith Dunlap has published numerous articles, presented workshops nationally and is a consultant on the different aspects and approaches to effective catechesis. This talk was presented live before an audience at the 1996 Los Angeles Religious Education Congress.
