Publisher Description

Returning to the Scottish Highlands after a fierce battle with the English, Tayg Munro receives a hero’s welcome—and an ultimatum. To take his place as heir to the chiefdom, he must choose a wife or have one chosen for him. Furious and stalling for time, the brooding warrior volunteers for a mission that takes him deep into the Highlands, with no hint of the fateful encounter that awaits him.…

Catriona MacLeod is known as the Shrew of Assynt, thanks to her razor-sharp tongue and her unwillingness to yield to her five brothers. When she learns that her eldest brother has promised her hand in marriage to a loathsome man, she flees into the Scottish wilderness, determined to seek the king’s intervention. There she reluctantly joins forces with a handsome traveler, unable to anticipate the treacherous plot that will soon embroil them—or the passion that will ignite between them.

"Looking for some light reading while on vacation or just to take you way from your life for a while? Look no further! This was exactly what I needed. My only difficulty was that I fully expected Ailig to be a traitor. There is a point where Cat tells the story of what happened when she was twelve and she mentions that Broc can neither read nor write -- I swear she says it in the present tense -- so I wondered if Ailig was the mastermind behind the plot. Then when they argued about which of them was to go to the king and which was to go after Broc and Cat, I thought all was lost when Tayg handed over the letters to Ailig."

" Tayg (warrior /bard) and Cat have a rocky beginning with her running from a 'planned marriage' and he on a quest for the King. This Book is full of highland adventure in the middle of winter. They are pursued by her betrothed and her brothers and are chased through the highlands as they uncover a plot to kill the king. I liked the book. There was growth in Cat's character and it was full of real emotion. Tayg was easy to like as well. This was book 1 in the series and I have read book 2 and it is her brother Ailig's story. "

" The two main characters are pretty mediocre, but not horrible. The prose is generally okay, but it suffers a bit from too much use of "twas" and "the king." The plot line was actually not bad, however. While the initial premise is a bit contrived, if you accept it the plot going from there is interesting without getting really dumb in the challenges it presents like many romance novels. "

" Maybe it was just the timing, but I found this book among many of the mundane ones I've read this past month (May, 2012). Of course, it was a take-off on Taming of the Shrew, and I enjoyed the two main characters and their story very much, but the frame story was just too much for me - - not a light enough romp, I guess. I loved the contrast between Tayg's warrior and bard personalities, and enjoyed Catriona's "self-discovery," but the rest of it was just "meh" for me... "

" Loved this book! I'm a sucker for a good Highlander novel to begin with and this one had enough twists and turns to keep my attention. Highly recommended if you like romance mixed with action and a man in a kilt! "

" it was very slow paced... 2.5 to pass it. It seemed lacking in both historical content or real depth to the story line as a whole.... As one reader put it...too much wondering in the wilderness. "
