Charlie Joe Jackson may be the most reluctant reader ever born. And so far, he's managed to get through life without ever reading an entire book from cover to cover. But now that he's in middle school, avoiding reading isn't as easy as it used to be. And when his friend Timmy McGibney decides that he's tired of covering for him, Charlie Joe finds himself resorting to desperate measures to keep his perfect record intact.

This is the hilarious story of an avid non-reader and the extreme lengths to which he'll go to get out of reading a book.

" I picked up this book because it looked humorous and it reminded me of several kids I know who will do anything to get out of reading. I think it will be quite popular in my library. I enjoyed both the story and the writing style. I especially enjoyed learning that the author wrote it for his own 3 sons who are reluctant readers. "

" Yet another book for "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" fans. Charlie Joe is a smart boy but he will do ANYTHING to avoid reading a book. This is a pretty funny book with good characters, and yes, even Charlie Joe learns something at the end. "

" Many of my reluctant readers, particularly the Wimpy Kid fans, will enjoy this. I had some laugh-out-loud moments, but the teacher part of me is uncomfortable with Charlie Joe's success with and continued mission to avoid reading. My students will get a kick out of my discomfort with the book! "

About the Author
Author Tommy Greenwald

Tommy Greenwald has enjoyed reading all his life, which is why he’s appalled that his kids Charlie, Joe, and Jack, would prefer getting a dental check-up to checking out a book. After years of pleading, threatening, and bribing, Tommy finally decided the only way to get his kids to read was to write a book about how to get out of reading. And they read it! (So they say). Greenwald is the Executive Creative Director at SpotCo, an entertainment advertising agency in New York City and lives in Connecticut with his family.
