As a young gay man - and a werepanther - all Jin Rayne yearns for is a normal life. Having fled his past, he wants nothing more than to start over, but Jin's old life doesn't want to let him go. When his travels bring him to a new city, he crosses paths with the leader of the local were-tribe.

Logan Church is a shock and an enigma, and Jin fears that Logan is both the mate he fears and the love of his life. Jin doesn't want to go back to the old ways, and mating would irrevocably tie him to them. But Jin is the mate Logan needs at his side to help him lead his tribe, and he won't give Jin up so easily. It will take time and trust for Jin to discover the joy in belonging to Logan and how to love without restraint.

" Although the stories are usually pretty enthralling, I am not a fan of the endings of most of Jodi Picoult's books. Not enough closure for me. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Carmen Norman | 2/15/2014

" This has been my favorite Jodi Picoult book so far. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Nat | 2/13/2014

" I think I read part of this book in The Green Mile by Stephen King, and that was a better read. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Magiczna | 2/10/2014

" While it was an enjoyable read, like all of Picoult's books I read so far, this one was missing what I would call the author's style. The story had too many links with The Green Mile in the plot and too much of Grisham's style in the court. It's still a page-turner, but Jodi Picoult could have done much better writing her own book. "

" I really really liked Picoult's book Change of Heart, but I felt that I couldn't give it five stars because at the beginning of the novel, it was really confusing while I tried to figure out who was who and whose point of view the story was being told from. I think Shay Bourne was a particularly interesting character as he was very human, which you don't expect from a murderer, but it seems to be explained once you find out he wasn't responsible for the murder of Elizabeth Nealon, and the circumstances behind the murders. I think the religion and miracle aspects are also interesting as he appears to cure AIDs and bring a bird back to life, then once Claire has his heart, she manages to cure her dog, supposedly. It's a fascinating conundrum. "

" Once you get past the "Green Mile" part of the story, it's actually a very moving and nicely woven story. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Holly | 1/4/2014

" I like the way this book was written, I believe it really makes you think, to challenge your beliefs. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Brandy | 1/3/2014

" Her books are really starting to disgust me. She completely ripped off so many other things. Her other book Keeping Faith, the Green Mile, her other book about the mom that shot the priest. I saw what was going to happen coming a mile away. And of course - a trial! "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Nez | 12/6/2013

" I only kept reading the book to find out if the twist was as I expected. And it was! The religious aspects of the book were just too much for me. The characters were annoying and I didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much as other Jodi's books (Nineteen minutes, My sister's keeper etc..) "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Maria | 12/5/2013

" Maybe its too religious but fell inlove with the story, this is a perfect occasion to prove you can never judge a book by its cover "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Melissa Anne | 12/1/2013

" I loved this book! I could not get enough - there were twist, but not so many that it was unrealistic. I enjoyed the character development throughout the story. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 April | 11/7/2013

" Very predictable. Really didn't hold my interest like Picoult's books are known to do. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Nick | 10/27/2013

" The premise is preposterous, but if you go beyond that, it is an entertaining and thoughtful book, which in my experience is what Picoult usually provides. What I admire is her ability to get right into the story without a lot of wasted words. The characters are sympathetic, too. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Caz | 10/13/2013

" Yay! Jodi is back! This book was classic Picoult, and I loved the tie-ins to the Gnostic Gospels. This one deserves the title of page turner. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Jan | 10/2/2011

" This was one of Picoult's better books. A death row inmate wants to donate his heart after execution to the small girt who is the younger sister of the girl he was convicted of murdering. Some really interesting pieces - almost supernatural - to this story. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Meredith Walker | 4/1/2011

" interesting concept. one of the better but not the best Jodi book. "

" Interesting idea and overall good story, but it felt a little like Green Mile and a little too fantasy for my taste. "

" More fun with m/m paranormal smut.
So, I tend to give stars on more of a rubric. So for the genre, this was awesome. It's not literatire with a capital L and thats ok. "

" Wow! I think Mary Calmes is my new favorite author. The sexual tension she's able to create between Jin and Logan is a joy to read. Great story from beginning to end. A keeper for sure. "

" Excellent start to this series. I loved the characters and their trying to work out their relationship during alot of stress was handled well. Jin is independent but soon finds he needs Logan on an elemental level. Really enjoyed it! "

" If I enjoy reading a book well enough to hope for a sequel, I want others to know that. This book has a good flow, sympathetic characters, and a good wrap-up. I have now read several of Mary Calmes' stories and I like her writing style very much. Thank you for a good read. "
