Publisher Description

Cat behaviorist and star of Animal Planet's hit television show My Cat from Hell, Jackson Galaxy, a.k.a. "Cat Daddy," isn't what you might expect for a cat expert (as the New York Times noted, with his goatee and tattoos he "looks like a Hell's Angel"). Yet Galaxy's ability to connect with even the most troubled felines—not to mention the stressed-out humans living in their wake—is awe-inspiring. In this book, Galaxy tells the poignant story of his thirteen-year relationship with a petite gray-and-white short-haired cat named Benny, and gives singular advice for living with, caring for, and loving the feline in your home.

When Benny arrived in his life, Galaxy was a down-and-out rock musician with not too much more going on than a part-time job at an animal shelter and a drug problem. Benny's previous owner brought the cat to the shelter in a cardboard box to give him up. Benny had seen better days—his pelvis had just been shattered by the wheels of a car—and his owner insisted he'd been "unbondable" from day one. Nothing could have been further from the truth.

An inspiring account of two broken beings who fixed each other, Cat Daddy is laced throughout with Galaxy's amazing "Cat Whisperer" advice for understanding what cats need most from us in order to live happier, healthier lives.

"After watching numerous episodes of My Cat from Hell-- I knew I had to read the book about how Jackson Galaxy came to be who he is. This book made me cry, both good and bad tears, made me appreciate him even more and what he does, and fall in love with my cats more than I ever thought possible. I absolutely loved reading about his life, even though it was far from perfect. It made me love his show even more."

Quotes

  • “This is an inspiring story, filled with all the title claims, useful information for the cat owner, and ardent and passionate pleas for spaying and neutering education and animal adoption. Galaxy gives a high-energy narration that fits the mad-cap world of an addict turned cat whisperer.”

" I loved this book as much as I love the show. It was great to read his background and his love of cats. "

" It's as much about Jackson and his recovery as it about Benny and cats. That's okay -- but be ready. "

" I don't typically read biographies, but I love Jackson on his TV show, My Cat from Hell, so I thought I'd give it a go. I'm glad I did, because I thoroughly enjoyed his honest, often hilarious stories of life with crazy cats, battling addictions, and searching for the road to recovery. "

" I loved this book. I have a food addiction and had surgery as did Cat Daddy. There are family members that are drug addicts who are trying very hard to get free of that chain. This book touched me so much especially (SPOILER ALERT) when he had to let Benny go. I cried and I cried remembering that it was exactly how I felt when I had to let one of my furbabies cross over the Rainbow Bridge. "

" I had hoped this would have anecdotes about the author's experiences with cats, but it is mostly about his messy journey from hopeless addict to this place of peace in the universe...new age mumbo jumbo and all that. "

" I'm not always impressed with memoirs because they are so one-sided, but he didn't hold any punches. He states very clearly that he was not a perfect person and owes a large part of his change to an equally damaged cat. Wonderful storytelling; I couldn't put it down. "

" This bio is more about the authors tough life struggles than cats. Jackson Galaxy is the Cat Whisperer. The connection between cats and him is a source of healing for him and the basis of his very good TV series where he transforms almost satanic cat problems into angelic feline fun. "

" Very enlightening read of the struggles of an addict. I enjoy My Cat From Hell on Animal Planet (since I have 3 felines myself). I respect this guy; he has made mistakes, but has learned from them. "
