Meet Will Carter, but feel free to call him Carter. (Yes, he knows it's a lazy nickname, but he didn't have much say in the matter.) Here are five things you should know about him:

1. He has a stuttering problem, particularly around boobs and belly buttons.
2. He battles Attention Deficit Disorder every minute of every day...unless he gets distracted.
3. He's a virgin, mostly because he's no good at talking to girls (see number 1).
4. He's about to start high school.
5. He's totally not ready.

Join Carter for his freshman year, where he'll search for sex, love, and acceptance anywhere he can find it. In the process, he'll almost kill a trombone player, face off with his greatest nemesis, suffer a lot of blood loss, narrowly escape death, run from the cops (not once, but twice), get caught up in a messy love triangle, meet his match in the form of a curvy drill teamer, and surprise the hell out of everyone, including himself. " This is not a middle school book but it's classified as YA. Carter is a normal 14 year old kid and the author is a KC area native. I thought the book was funny and I read it in a day. "

" Was an alright book i mean i never once connected with carter, i never had any of the problems he did. i was never shy and always managed to look at girls when they werent looking but could hold fluent conversations with them. it was a funny at times boook if i had to give this book a letter grade itd probably be a C+ i mean if u are that person who had an issue talking to girls and had a stuttering problem and jerked off while watched messed up porn ,movies then this bok is for you. "

" The best shorthand description I can come up with for the experience of listening to audiobook reader Nick Podehl's enthusiastically expressive voice bringing Brent Crawford's writing to life is a Scrubs prequel, with Carter a combination J.D.-Turk as a high school freshman. A slightly exaggerated take on the mindset and adventures of many teen guys (all crammed into the story of one school year), narrated by a hilarious character (not many books get literal LOLs from me like this one did), with enough reality and insight to keep things grounded. Highly recommended. "

" I thought it was going to be just another grunty clueless-boy book, but after the first handful of chapters Carter's voice, kind heart and headlong ADD adventures really hooked me, and by the end I was laughing and rooting for him. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Snitch | 11/18/2013

" I wouldn't recommend this to anyone with strict parents or under 6th grade, for drinking, very descriptive when describing his first kiss, drugs, minor cussing, (Such as A word and D word. Those were most common) and things involving the police. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Mr. Steve | 11/1/2013

" Laugh out loud funny. Some crudeness but funny (and actually sweet) coming of age story of a 9th grade boy learning all about life through his mistakes in high school. Definite good read for those who don't get offended easily and are looking for a laugh. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 LaLa | 8/3/2013

" I like that this book has the same sense of humor as it's readership - 13 year old boys, I'm just not sure that I'm the right person to appreciate this sense of humor. "

" Will Carter - freshman, ADD, stutterer, and add immature, clueless, too eager, clumsy, and earnest. You have to love a guy like that. Carter bungles his way through his freshman year trying way too hard to be cool and together and even though he misses the mark by a mile, the trip is, well, a trip. "

" Do you remember high school in the 90s? Well, Brent Crawford does and he spins a helluva tale about it. You should pick this up and relive your glory days (or see what it was like for us 30-somethings back then). Great debut novel! Can't wait to read the next one. "
