Publisher Description

Martha Hazlett, young, slight, and pretty, escapes from a position of near slavery in England and boards a ship for the colonies in America, where wives are needed. Upon arrival, she is selected for marriage by a gentleman old enough to be her father and wisked off to his plantation on the edge of the wilderness. She makes the best of a bad situation until the plantation is raided by Indians and she becomes a captive. "It is my mother's favourite, so I actually read it to check it out. But i found it quite interesting ( I really liked Lucas, he is my favourite character after Rosetta and I was pleased to find out that in the end she stayed with him). Nice plot and exciting mystery, even though it wasn't a strong romance( whict is fine by me.) Nice work by Holt."

    " This novel had a slightly more exotic setting than most of Holt's other novels (a harem!), but was still pretty good. definitely not her worst. it's been a long time since I've read this, but I remember liking the hero and enjoying the book, even if it wasn't her best either. "
