Doctor. Scholar. Soldier. Peter Blood has been all these. But when he is exiled and sold unjustly into slavery, he finds there is another title he must own - Pirate. Now a man without a country, he wreaks his revenge upon the Spanish Main as a buccaneer. The only thing that saves him from absolute dissolution is the love he still harbors for Miss Arabella Bishop. "English physician is wrongfully convicted of treason and sold into slavery. He rallies several slaves to capture a Spanish ship. They take to the seas as pirates. Peter Blood is a honorable, honest, intelligent, uncompromising character. His adventures are many, he always gets out of trouble using his wits rather than his brawn. He pines after the niece of his slave master, and eventually wins her love. He is appointed governor of Jamaica and enjoys his happy ending. One of the greatest adventure novels ever."

" want to know where all the swashbuckling films you've ever seen came from..... it's this. a cracking yarn "

" Smarter with more shades of grey than I expected. Peter Blood is far from the a dimensional super fighter. Outside of actual combat situations, he sometimes fails and then pays for those failures. Do not misunderstand. This is action adventure but with more thought and better craftsmanship than normal. "

" I love this book! I love Peter Blood! He is my favorite kind of character: an honorable man, a reluctant hero, motivated by his true love (NOT lust) for a woman who at first seems unattainable..... With plenty of buccaneering adventures, clever escapes, and witty dialogue as well.... All the makings for a great story! "

" Truly a great book! Adventure, romance - all deftly delivered through Mr. Sabatini's skilled prose. I am definitely going to read more of his works, may find my way back to Capt Blood once again. "

" It isn't intelligent, brilliant or challenging. I read it as a kind of self-indulgent nostalgia. If you want to feel like what you might have felt like when you were about 10 years old and wanted a bit of old-time swash buckling, this is a good choice. "

" Immerse yourself in the trials of Peter Blood, doctor, humanitarian, pacifist and pirate. If those things sound oxymoronic, it's becuase Sabvatini has a way of reminding us that life is full of contradictions, like people. Then see Errol Flynn in the movie. "

" I suppose this book defines the Swashbuckler genre. It was alternately cheesy and engaging. I feel Scaramouche (Sabatini's other great work) is much better. "

" This is a great book if you are into historical naval battles, love stories and a place called Tortuga. I really liked Captain Blood and his crew. For an old book, it's easy to read and the action is descriptive. Mr. Blood is a cool character!! "

" If you want a rip-roaring swashbuckling pirate tale, this is it. Sabatini is my kind of writer--creating vividly drawn characters you care about! It's a literate and involving tale of adventure, injustice, revenge, and romance you'll find hard to put down. "

" So far my favorite of the Sabatini books I've read. The strategies Blood uses on the high seas were amazing. I never ever would have thought to put the phrase "high seas adventure" in a list of books I'd ever enjoy but Sabatini makes it work brilliantly. "

" The greatest pirate adventure of them all! I was pleasantly suprised with this novel. A very compelling story of Peter Bloods journey from doctor to slave to pirate and thief setting sail in the Caribbean. This book is a must read. "
