Publisher Description

The Beckers and Vonns have a history, beginning years ago in high school with a rumble between the brothers of each clan.

But boys grow up. Now one Becker brother is a cop on his first homicide case. One’s a minister yearning to perform just one miracle. One is a reporter drunk with ambition. And all three are about to collide with the changing world of 1968 as each brother, in his own special way, tries to find Janelle’s killer.

As the suspects multiply and secrets are exposed, the Becker brothers are all drawn further into the case, deeper into the past, and closer to the danger.

    " Next by T J Parker. Takes place in 1968, so the tumultous history (riots at Democratic convention, 2 assassinations) of that year was about to happen. It interweaves two families in Orange County in which one member is killed and the other family tries to find the killer. Richard Nixon and Timothy Leary figure in the story. I guess I didn't like this book very well because I didn't like the characters.... "

    " This was one of those gritty mystery novels. It was better written than some of those mass produced mystery series. I really liked reading about California in the 1960s, when there were still oranges in Orange County. This one really had me guessing who did the crime, and the ending has a bit of a surprise. "

    " An above-average mystery set mainly in the late '60s in southern California. The family interactions and the drugs-sex-and-rock-and-roll atmosphere made this a compelling story, but it isn't one that will resonate with me for long. A perfectly good read, but not great. "

    " What I liked about this Orange County mystery is how much more complicated the detective work becomes when the detective's entire family knew the victim. Of course throwing in Charles Manson, Timothy Leary and a groovy drive-in church adds to the intrigue. "

    " When a decapitated body is discovered, Nick Becker, detective is called. But the victim is someone he knows from childhood. His brother, Andy, is the reporter assigned to the story. Very convoluted tale of tracking down the surprising killer. Lots of family dynamics involved. "
