" This is another terrific Dublin Murder Squad mystery from Tana French. Each time she picks a new detective and a new case, and it is always a little bit personal to the detective. Her style is such that you feel like you are in the main character's head. I loved it!! "

" Tana French is officially my favorite crime/suspense writer! Actually, I believe she's the only crime/suspense writer I read. That's because aside from a fantastic plot-driven story she still manages to write so beautifully. I was up all night (literally) just so I could finish this book. And I had work in the morning! French is becoming quite adept at psychological suspense. Her characters are always very human, even the sickos. Two thumbs up to this book! THe LIkeness is still my favorite though. :) "

" This story kind of fell apart at the end (I think French was trying too hard not to be predictable), but this is by far the best book of the series. As always, she kept me up way past my bedtime because I can never put her books down once I've started them. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Mark Edwards | 1/24/2014

" A beautifully written crime novel, hugely atmospheric and emotionally affecting. Only negative is that it's overlong - a lot of the chapters could have been trimmed considerably. But there were points in this novel when I was more absorbed than I have been in a long time. Highly recommended. "

" Patrick Spain and his two children are found murdered in their home, with his wife, Jenny, near death. Mike (Scorcher) Kennedy and his rookie partner, Richie Cullen, are assigned to investigate it. I enjoyed this book. Love Tana French! "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Anne Wood | 12/6/2013

" Am loving it, of course, it's Tana French! But a bit too much foreshadowing... I mean, it's a Murder Squad novel, I know that somethings going to go bad! "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Kelly MacIver | 12/4/2013

" I read this in a weekend; very fast paced and at times had me putting it down because I was so agonized by what was happening. It was a good mystery in that I didn't anticipate the outcome. Also all that seemed so mystical turned out just to be the simplest answer. Which is how life is, isn't it? "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Laura Lamb-susca | 12/3/2013

" Great murder mystery. Story about a family who is brutally murdered in their home. A family who had everything going for them...until....Many twists...do not find out who dun it to almost the end. Great story line! "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Holly Martin | 11/4/2013

" This is my first Tana French book. It's a great mystery with some decent character development. I could not figure it out and it kept me on the edge of my seat until the end. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Nora | 9/26/2013

" I think this is the best of the four mysteries Tana French sets in Ireland. It was a good mystery with twists and turns that made sense and kept you speculating about the murderer. The quality of writing takes it from mystery to literature. "

" Not my favorite but definitely worth a read. after reading any Tana French novel I am left pondering the story and characters. Even though Scorcher isn't my favorite character I now I know I will be left thinking about him and this book for awhile. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Holly Troup | 10/24/2012

" Known for her police procedural/psychological thrillers, Tana French has again produced a vivid, tautly -written story with a sinister, sometimes macabre atmosphere. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Lucy | 9/18/2012

" My only complaint about Ms. French's books is that I'm ready for the story to wrap up about 3/4 of the way through. The last hundred pages or so are often skimmed just do I can put all the pieces together quickly. Great read. I think her first was still my favorite. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Emily Lavender | 8/31/2012

" Not as great as her first, but still a very good book. She really writes novels that seem like murder mysteries, not your typical whodunit. "
