Publisher Description

On an icy winter’s day in southwest Michigan, Grace Abbott wakes up as the survivor of a car crash. But she’s left with a traumatic brain injury and a terrifying reality: she can’t remember anything.

Left in the care of her sister, Grace returns to the family’s secluded old farmhouse to recover—but within an hour of her return, the police arrive. Grace’s boyfriend has been murdered. Without any memory, Grace has no alibi.

With suspicion weighing heavily on her and flashes of memory returning, Grace searches for clues to her past. But with every glimpse, her anxiety grows. There is something about the house, her family, her childhood…perhaps the accident isn’t the only reason she can’t remember. Are the dark recesses of her mind hiding something even more sinister and terrifying than she could ever imagine?

Is someone willing to kill again to hide the truth?

“E.C. Diskin is the best and brightest new mystery writer to come along in a long time. In her powerful second novel Broken Grace, her use of language is deft and skillful—she turns a lovely phrase. Her characters, especially her women, are both real and original. Her story raises intriguing questions about identity, memory, association, trust, and the self on its most essential level. This is not so much a ‘whodunit’ as a ‘whoisit’?

— Peter Ferry, author of Travel Writing

Quotes

  • “A masterfully crafted story in the best traditions of classical murder mysteries…Every scene adds tension to Grace’s plight and ends at the edge of another emotional cliff, daring the reader to put the book down…If you love a fast-moving mystery that keeps you guessing, Broken Grace is highly recommended.”

    — Windy City Reviews
  • “E. C. Diskin is a master at gracefully infusing plot with suspense, riveting her readers from page one…Just when you think you have a handle on what’s happening, Diskin expertly turns another card, sending us down a completely different path. Much like passing a tragic accident, we can’t help but slow down to gape.”
