Publisher Description

In this novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling Dresden Files, Chicago's only professional wizard takes on a case for a vampire and becomes the prime suspect in a series of ghastly murders. Harry Dresden has had worse assignments than going undercover on the set of an adult film. Like fleeing a burning building full of enraged demon-monkeys, for instance. Or going toe-to-leaf with a walking plant monster. Still, there’s something more troubling than usual about his newest case. The film’s producer believes he’s the target of a sinister curse—but it’s the women around him who are dying, in increasingly spectacular ways.   Harry’s doubly frustrated because he only got involved with this bizarre mystery as a favor to Thomas—his flirtatious, self-absorbed vampire acquaintance of dubious integrity. Thomas has a personal stake in the case Harry can’t quite figure out, until his investigation leads him straight to the vampire’s oversexed, bite-happy family. Now, Harry’s about to discover that Thomas’ family tree has been hiding a shocking secret: a revelation that will change Harry’s life forever.

"As with the few before this, I enjoyed it a lot. The noir mysteries are always interesting, and the supernatural twist makes it right up my alley. The big twist in this one (in the larger story over the series, not just within this particular story) wasn't all that surprising to me despite the fact that I hadn't guessed it. I like it, though. The characters are growing, and I like that so many of the show up from time to time and we always learn something new about them. I can't wait to read more, and get the bigger story-- it just keeps growing!"

Quotes

  • “A must-read series... Fans will relish the details that unfold about Harry’s mysterious past, which Butcher cleverly ties into the current case, but the stand-alone plot won't confuse new readers.”

    — RT Book Reviews
  • “Butcher’s Dresden Files...are equal parts fantasy, horror, and hard-boiled mystery. Powered by the author’s irreverent sense of humor, this tongue-in-cheek supernatural thriller is as entertaining as it is grisly.”

    — Barnes & Noble editorial review
  • “Filled with sizzling magic and intrigue...the latest of [Harry’s] adventures will have fans rapidly turning the pages.”

" Best book series ever. I love Jim Butcher books. THe only thing I have that I could say bad about the series is that it is not long enough. Thirteen hours is not enough time. I can listen to these books for ever and ever. Jim Butcher keeps you engaged and always leaves you wanting more. The way he describes his characters and environment, I feel like I am watching a movie in my head. If you are not reading these books you should be. Best books ever!! "

" I found this book to be the most rewarding and tightly-plotted of the Dresden books so far. Lots of questions are answered, while dangling plot threads from two and three books ago are woven back in. Nice. "

" Fantàstic, dels més sucosos de la sèrie, tot i que el desenllaç és una mica decepcionant. El millor és la informació que revela sobre el passat de'n Harry i les implicacions que pot tenir en els propers llibres. En James Marsden, com a la resta d'audiollibres, és un Harry Dresden perfecte. "

" Once again, Jim Butcher writes a great Dresden book. Harry gets himself into some deep doo-doo on two fronts. One with a case he has taken and the other with the Black Court Vampires in town. Read to see how Harry once again makes it out with his skin, or most of it anyway! "
