When a fire is done, what's left is only half-destroyed. It is charred and brittle. It is obscene. There is nothing so ugly in all the world as what a fire leaves behind, covered in ashes and smoke and a smell you'll think about every day for the rest of your life.

Reluctant investigator Alex McKnight finds himself drawn by friendship into a long drive north. The brother of Alex's longtime Ojibwa friend Vinnie LeBlanc works as a hunting guide, serving the rich clients from downstate. It seems that Vinnie's brother and his most recent group of hunters have vanished in northern Ontario, and Vinnie is scared enough to ask Alex to help him find them.

Their arrival sets in motion a heart-pounding string of events that leaves Alex and his friend miles from civilization, stranded in the heart of the Canadian wilderness with no food, no weapons -and no way out. And there's someone out there who definitely does not want them to make it back alive.

At once elegant and enormously suspenseful, Steve Hamilton's Blood Is the Sky heralds his arrival as one of the premier crime writers working today. Download and start listening now!

" Another good one in a series of good ones. I was glad for Alex McKnight and Vinnie to be on an adventure together, and I was happy to go up to Canada with them for a while. Great story. "

" I like the friendship I saw in this book. What one fella would do to help his friend, including the officer in the Canadian police whose partner had been killed. It was a good book and one that will definitely hold your interest. "

" I love this series, particularly the character of Alex McKnight and the setting in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan setting. However, I was bored by the story line on this one and I couldn't generate enough interest to finish it. "

" Steve Hamilton is a dynamic author and his Alex McKnight series is one of the best series I have read. I really try not to give the slightest hints of spoilers when I have found a series or author I like. "

" Excellent; Continuing character: Alex McKnight; Alex goes with his friend Vinnie to search for Vinnie's brother who is acting as a guide for a hunt; what they discover is carnage and a link to a long ago tragedy
    "

" I've read all of Steve Hamilton's books and I'm always looking forward to the next one. As I recall though, in my opinion this is the best in his Alex McKnight series, so far. Waiting for his next read. "

" There's a whole series of these thrillers with Alex McKnight as the burned out cop who moves back home to the UP for peace and quiet, but no such luck. They are well written and extra fun because they take place in Northern Mich. "

" I picked up this paperback and was pleasantly surprised. "An Alex McKnight novel" Vinnie is searching for a brother who went to Canada as a guide for 'businessmen from Detroit'. I loved the combination of hard-core city cop and reservation culture. Good stuff. "

" I'd have to say this is my favorite McKnight story so far. It was a real page turner and difficult to put down. I just had to know what was next! "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Matt | 9/19/2007

" Perhaps the most creative and clever in the McKnight series.

Alex is called to look for a friend's missing brother in Ontario, Canada. Five missing in a chilling story north of the border. "
