Publisher Description

Walt Larimore was a young flatlander physician with a wife and three-year-old daughter when he set up his first practice in the little mountain hamlet of Bryson City, North Carolina. Schooled in the latest medical technology, the eager doctor discovered that there were some things in rural practice for which medical school just hadn't prepared him. He found his patients were often his best teachers, and his classroom ranged from hospital corridors and smelly barns to homey kitchens and mountain streams.

In Best of Bryson City, Dr. Larimore reads selections from his two collections of stories about the place that forever shaped not only his medical practice, but also his practice of life and faith. He sweeps readers into a world of colorful characters and the warmth, humor, quirks, and struggles of a small country town.

"This was a completely random book for me to read. My mom had it on her bookshelf and we had just driven through Bryson City on a vacation. I thought it was a fun easy read. I would probably read some of the author's other stories."

" Story of a doctor in his first practice in the Smoky Mts. I'm not sure what year he started practicing as a doctor, but he was there 20 years plus has been with Focus on the Family for a while since then. Interesting stories of the backwoods patients and becoming accepted in a closed community. "

" This was enjoyable to read. It was special because of work in a rural area. Health care in rural areas is a bit different than that in a big city. His learning, fears, experiences were those that are easy to relate to. This is a fast quick fun read. "

" This book is charming, warm and real. I loved the medical aspect of it, and how he at times struggled to make the right diagnosis, to fit into a political small town of natives, and make a life for his family. "
