" An old book by the author of "The Borrowers" and upon which the Disney film of the same name was very roughly based. The book is a fun little adventure yarn in which three children come into possession of a magic bed-knob which, when turned on a bed-post, allows them to travel to another place. The children travel to various exotic places, but there is little overall story arc. Interestingly, the children blackmail the witch they get the bed-knob from (which is unusually deviant behavior presented in a straightforward and unremarkable way). Also, the book is a compilation of two books, the first one written about 15 years before the second. It is obvious that the author has learned much in the intervening 15 years because the first book is simply a listing of potentially fun events, while the second book has much deeper characterizations and even something of an interesting moral choice at the end when the witch travels back in time to be with her new companion.
