" Nothing like the movie, not even close. I'll have to read it again once I've gotten over that. "

" LOVE the movie, hate the book. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Nicolle | 1/29/2014

" The story was a little difficult to get excited about in the beginning and I am not a fan of the author's style. But, I did really enjoy the middle and end of the book as the characters and their stories developed. It was a tear-jerker - not as bad as "My Sister's Keeper" - but still sad. A story of a good woman who gets cheated out of life. This is another movie I have not seen, but hope to watch soon. The book is a quick and easy read. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Katee | 1/28/2014

" A little too crass for my liking....I believe the movie is MUCH better than the book, which I rarely believe and say! The characters don't seem especially fleshed out, and the relationships too simplistic. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Lisa | 1/19/2014

" I think this is a wonderful book of friendship (it's ups and downs) and the strength of having that one special friend in your life that you can always call (NO MATTER WHAT). This is a book to re-read over and over throughout life; just to be reminded that friends stay FOREVER. If you saw the movie, but never read the book...READ IT! Even if you did, READ IT AGAIN!!!!! "

" I thought this was a pretty good novel. Cee-Cee sure does have a personality. I didn't like all of the swearing, but I loved the story! "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Tiff | 12/22/2013

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Rebecca | 12/19/2013

" The movie was very true to this book. It was a quick, enjoyable read. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Elaine Rosa | 10/9/2013

" This was most definitely a case of the movie was way better than the book. Which is something I never say. Both did not match up even the character names & especially the events or places. I'm not recommending this book especially if you are one who loves the movie. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Carly222 | 10/1/2013

" Didn't totally fall in love but didn't hate it. It makes you remember just how ironic, unfair, bittersweet and messed up life can be. Differs GREATLY from the movie so anyone who loves the movie, there's a good chance you will not like the book. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Alicia | 9/20/2013

" Much grittier than the schmaltzy yet beloved film. The novel isn't afraid to make references to drug use and strange sexual situations. It also portrays the core friendship in a much more believable light. Complex, maddening, and yet something always pulls them back to each other. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Jo | 9/15/2013

" This gets 5 stars because I still remember it so well 22 years later. I loved all the differnt beaches as the connecting points in their lives. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Lisa Olivera | 8/20/2013

" Cute, funny, but way too sad. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Kristie | 7/7/2013

" As with most books this is much different than the movie. I'm glad I have the second book bought already I feel like the book just left off in the middle of the air. It was an okay read. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Ana | 4/10/2013

" Loved it! Also one of the closest book/movie adaptations I've ever come across. Sad, quick read, I enjoy the way it's just glimpses into their lives through letters when they're not physically close. After a couple of not-so-great books, this one was what I was looking for! "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Angela | 3/12/2013

" This was a rather dark and depressing book. Other than the all enduring friendship that the book revolves around, it's rather dismal. Having said that, it's a real page turner. I couldn't put it down. I think it's the fastest I've read in a book in awhile. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Tracie | 1/25/2013

" Read it way before the movie came out and loved it. The movie did the book justice, so if you've seen it but haven't read it give it a shot. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Kendra Mccaskill | 11/20/2012

" Picked this up at a thrift a few months ago, having remembered the movie. Probably saw it on VHS using a VCR. Like those terms, this book was written in the early 80s. Was a good lite, easy listening, retro read. I cried at the end. "
