"Well, L. Ron Hubbard was a nut!!! I think so but most good writers are. this is a great book. it should be read for the fun it gives. It is very fast over the first 900 pages. The last 100 or so are the ending, not bad as well. So forget "his way of living group and movie" and just enjoy the book!!!"

" WOW... I'm so conflicted over this book. One the one hand it was a book that dragged on, a book that while daunting in size should have only taken me about a month... it took me 4 months! It dragged on and on and on... you get the point. But on the other hand the book picked up in the second half and had me hooked despite the awful prose, the pathetically made up names and ideas, the jumbled train of thought, the... well again, you get the point. I loved the main character, i loved the supporting characters, I felt I got into their lives and was hooked from the beginning, but I hated the writing style soooooo much! Don't even get me on the overly obvious parallels to society, but the entire plot just felt forced. Again, the characters redeemed this entire book, but only so much. I would not undertake this book unless you LOVE post-apocolyptic literature, which, while sci-fi at its core, it really was. A post-apocolyptic society of humans pushed to the brink of extinction by an alien race who then fights up to save themselves and the universe. Sounds great, but again, the writing style is so drab that if your like me you'll find it difficult to wade through. Overall a 3 but a 5 for characters and a 1 for writing style. Trust me, when he writes in dialects it is so distracting and drives you CRAZY! So shy away unless your like me and a glutten for punishment! "

" The payoff came...eventually. How this man founded a religion, I'll never know. His writing is at once slow and sophomoric, despite what should be an exciting race to save humanity. The intergalactic financial scheme really made it all worth it though! "

If there had been a little more subtlety to the last third of the book, this would have eared at least a four star rating. "

About L. Ron Hubbard

L. Ron Hubbard (1911–1986), with nineteen New York Times bestsellers and more than 230 million copies of his works in circulation, was among the most acclaimed and widely read authors of the twentieth century. As a leading light of American pulp fiction through the 1930s and 1940s, he was further among the most influential authors of the modern age. Indeed, from Ray Bradbury to Stephen King, there is scarcely a master of imaginative tales who has not paid tribute to him.
