"Translator not named. Quite an amusing and imaginative little work; nevertheless, this flight of whimsy loses a little --- uh --- steam in the middle. The journey across India is fascinating and detailed, with much to interest the reader; furthermore, exciting things happen on this leg of the journey (Fogg and company rescue a woman from involuntary suttee, etc). However, from there, the narrative begins to plod, and the methodical description of America's geography is the low point. Near the end, fortunately, the tale picks up, and the reader is thrown new twists and turns to the plot on every page. And of course it all ends happily."

" A great read - amusing an easy to read. It must be the first true adventure story I've read literally in ages and it is a great start for a new reading year. I rate it with 4 stars because even though an enjoyable read, when it comes to the literary value of the book, it is missing something. "

" I've read this book, listened to it, and watched the movie yet it never gets old :-) The ending was still as exciting as the first time I read it. From another era, the characters are refreshingly honest, willing to sacrifice of themselves, honorable. The grand adventure, full of dangers and setbacks, tests the ingenuity and determination of the unflappable main character, Phileas Fogg, but brings to him some turns even he didn't anticipate. "

About Jules Verne

Jules Verne (1828–1905) is considered by many the father of science fiction. Born in Nantes, France, he studied law but turned to writing opera libretti until the 1863 publication of Five Weeks in a Balloon, the first of his Extraordinary Voyages series. Its success encouraged him to produce a number of classic and prophetic science fiction novels, including Journey to the Center of the Earth and Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea. His stories foresaw many scientific and technological developments, including the submarine, television, and space travel.
