"I should be embarrassed that this thin book took me more than a month to read - especially since I really did like it. I knew the basic story before I ever got into the book. I thought the book would be much more difficult a read (try Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea). An enjoyable read."

" Oh I mean, Passepartout, what fun! Elephants and opium, oh my! But it was a little too in the style of Phileas Fogg himself (with a lot of focus on timing of ships and such) for my taste. Not to mention all the Rule Britannia colonialist stuff, which is always jarring, no matter how much you know it's of its time. "

" I had to read this book in class this past year and I did not enjoy myself at all. I often day dreamed and went off track because, for me, the writing was hard to understand. However, I thought the very end was actually really fascinating and a good little twist. "

" Difficult to believe this classic Victorian tale was actually written by a Frenchman. Was he taking the piss? Such an adventure over 100 years ago. Trains, ships and boats but not the balloon of the film. A book that everyone should read. "

" This is a fun adventure story. It would be even more fun if Phileas Fogg wasn't so effing glorified. And if you'd get to know more about the countries they travelled. And if there was a hot air balloon. Oh, well. "

" This book (much to my surprise) rocked my socks. I listened to the audiobook version, read by Jim Dale. It was really fast-pased and Jules Verne's unsavory depiction of 20th-century Americans is hilarious. Passepartout was my fav! Four stars. "

About Jules Verne

Jules Verne (1828–1905) is considered by many the father of science fiction. Born in Nantes, France, he studied law but turned to writing opera libretti until the 1863 publication of Five Weeks in a Balloon, the first of his Extraordinary Voyages series. Its success encouraged him to produce a number of classic and prophetic science fiction novels, including Journey to the Center of the Earth and Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea. His stories foresaw many scientific and technological developments, including the submarine, television, and space travel.
