Publisher Description

For Nina Askew, turning forty means freedom—from the ex-husband whose career always came first, from their stuffy suburban home. Freedom to have her own apartment in the city, freedom to focus on what she wants for a change. And what she wants is something her ex always vetoed—a puppy. A bouncy puppy to cheer her up. Instead she gets…Fred.

Overweight, smelly and obviously suffering from some kind of doggy depression, Fred is light-years from perky. But for all his faults, he does manage to put Nina face-to-face with Alex Moore, her gorgeous, younger downstairs neighbor.

Alex looks great on paper—a sexy, seemingly sane, surprisingly single E.R. doctor who shares Fred’s abiding love for Oreos—but a ten-year difference in age, despite his devastating smile, is too wide a gap for Nina to handle. Ignoring her insistent best friend, some interfering do-gooders and the ubiquitous Fred—not to mention her suddenly raging hormones—Nina thinks anyone but Alex would be a better bet for a relationship. But with every silver-haired stiff she dates, the more she suspects it’s the young dog-loving doctor she wants to sit and stay!

"It was a cute story and I really liked it. Nina, the main character just turned forty & recently went through a divorce. She sees this turn in her life as an opportunity to focus on what is important to her for a change. Along her journey, she meets her downstairs thirty year old neighbor, Alex. She thinks it is preposterous that this younger, attractive & successful doctor is interested in her and she completely tries to avoid the growing attraction she feels for him. Her ex also re-enters the picture and tries to persuade Nina she would be better off coming back to him. Being in my forties, I could so relate to the main character and the way she viewed the her growing relationship with Alex. That is all I can say without providing spoilers, but I can tell you that the writing was good, the plot was believable and the characters were all very likable! An enjoyable & easy read."

" Really fun book! The dog is so sweet and she doesn't follow the regular mode of romance it is much more believable but with the happy ending!! "

" Great book about a woman who just turned 40 and is finally free from her marriage. Divorce papers in hand she decides to get a dog, something cute and perky. Instead she got anything but cute and perky. But her new hound sets her up with her hot 30 year old neighbor. But with such a big age gap she decides that it would be best to date people her own age. From there the hilarity ensues. "

" I liked that the hero was not just the two-dimensional "hot guy" that turns up in so many romance novels. We really got to see inside his head, and there was more to him than just the standard "romance hero." Seemed like a real guy. "

" Loved this. It was sexy and cute and smart, not unlike the hero and heroine. They were extremely likable, in a flawed way, and their character arcs were really fun. Fulfilling read, and I hope to find more like this one! "

" OMG why has it taken me so long to read a Crusie book?A really fun, sweet book. It's short, but able to really convey a lot of information about the characters in that brief time. Plus, the most adorable part-basset, part-beagle, part-manic depressive sidekick. "

" This book was delightful. I never thought that I would be a fan of chicklit, but this book certainly proved me wrong. Told lightly, and with good humor, Crusie weaves a narrative about becoming comfortable with who you are, and being assertive about what it is you want. Good messages for anyone. "
