Publisher Description

A devilish debut by a brother-sister team invites us into the world of the elite Marlowe School, where some gifted students are having a hell of a year.

One night, in cities all across Europe, five children vanish—only to appear, years later, at an exclusive New York party with a strange and elegant governess. Rumor and mystery follow the Faust teenagers to the city’s most prestigious high school, where they soar to suspicious heights with the help of their benefactor’s extraordinary "gifts." But as the students claw their way up—reading minds, erasing scenes, stopping time, stealing power, seducing with artificial beauty—they start to suffer the sideeffects of their own addictions. And as they make further deals with the devil, they uncover secrets more shocking than their most unforgivable sins. At once chilling and wickedly satirical, this contemporary reimagining of the Faustian bargain is a compelling tale of ambition, consequences, and ultimate redemption.

"Very interesting book. It took a long time to get started but once the five kids start going to Marlowe, things really picked up. This is not a book for those looking for enjoyment. The book makes you look within yourself and makes you ask which character you are."

" Love the world these new authors are building. The first installment is a bit clunky with so much world-building to do, but still worth the read, and I have already ordered book 2. "

" I wish I could award this with 3 and half stars but since that's not possible, I guess just three stars seems fitting. This book started off pretty slow. It was a bit boring, seemingly because there was no really direction that it was leading to at first. It pretty much seemed like an introduction that was extended far more than it needed to be. However, as the book picked up momentum, though it was all the way in the last couple of chapters, the plot seemed to surface and previous chapters began to be relevant. In those last chapters, the somewhat agonized beginning and middle became worth the struggle. It probably didn't end with the resolve I would have wanted but I guess it was good enough. The end seemed rather abrupt in a way. But overall, a good solid book. Not quite sure if I would read the second of the series. Maybe, maybe not. "

" I started reading this book but the font size was annoying the heck out of me so it got really hard to pay attention to details. If the publishers change the font I might give it another try. "

" While the premise seemed intriguing, the execution lacked. It was a tedious read similar to that of Eragon. Some aspects of the book were nicely done but the over zealous detailing overshadowed it. "
