In this charming sequel to Anne of Green Gables, the unpredictable red-headed heroine returns for more wonderful adventures. When Anne Shirley first came to the beautiful Canadian town of Avonlea, she was a mischievous, talkative orphan who captured the hearts of everyone she met. Now, a few years later, Anne is a young woman with new dreams. She has become Avonlea's schoolteacher, and ends up, among other things, reuniting two long-lost lovers, raising two orphans, and falling in love for the first time. " I didn't like the sequel as much as its predecessor. While I enjoyed reading about Anne's time as a school teacher and her hobbies like the Improvement Society, for the most part the book seemed rather dull. It was missing the energetic spark of the first one. "

" Those times have changed, does Anne, I hope, still ring so true to young girls today? I can read this and clearly remember in such vivid detail feeling those feelings. How did this author hang on to the core of these ages in a young girl's life? "

" Oh, how did I not read these books when I was about 17? I love them. I love their sweetness and the old-fashioned humor. I love their promise and the gentle rhythm. I think maybe I wouldn't have enjoyed them as much when I was younger. Now I know how really precious beauty, tenderness, and gentleness are. Visiting Marilla, Anne, Gilbert and company in Avonlea is like a restorative cup of tea for an over-tired heart. "

" I wanted to finish reading this book, but I could NOT find the time, so I am like 3/4 of the way through it. :D :D My dad started this thing for us where if we read a minimum of 150 pages per week, we get $15, and we get bonuses and stuff, so I'm going to be reading a lot of books!!! I hope to get this one finished. "
