Five years have passed since the orphan girl Anne Shirley came to live in the childless home of Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert. She has returned to Avonlea to teach in the same village school where she herself was taught. Her earlier friends, Diana Barry, Jane Andrews, Priscilla Gray, and Gilbert Blyth, have also become teachers at neighboring village schools.

A mysterious new neighbor and his parrot named Ginger are now added to the original cast of characters. And there are the mischievious but darling Keith twins, Davy and Dora, whom Marilla has adopted.

" Got these free from feedbooks.com for my Kindle, rereading for the umpteenth time- what a joy, such simple times and sweet characters. I don't suppose life was really like that even then, but the fantasy is so pretty... "

" The book I read was Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, and Anne's House of Dreams. They couldn't find the one I read? Anne is about an orphan that is adopted and her life. She is a talkative girl that is very lovable, but gets into some trouble, small trouble. The second book is about her teaching and the third book is about her married life etc. "

" I re-read the entire series last year and loved it. I think Anne changes quite a bit throughout the series and from a feminist perspective I am more comfortable with my daughter reading the earlier stories. I would love to hear what other women thing about this. Also, I tend to like the odd number books better than the even (1-3-5) but they are all fun to read! "

" I would give this 6 stars if I could. I love it, I was sorry when it was over and I just want to start reading it again! Anne Shirley is the most animated, honest and passionate character ever. The rest of the characters are all so well drawn out i.e. the stern Marilla, the shy Mathew, your usual cast of friendly and gossiping neighbors. This book got me from the moment Anne was picked up in the train station and started her journey to Green Gables where there is (in her words) so much more scope for imagination. Anne's many misadventures and triumphs while growing up will get you laughing, sighing, remembering, dreaming and rediscovering the joys of your own childhood. Recommended to all adults. Everyone MUST read it at least once. :) "

" One of my favorites. I read it several times when I was in middle school and high school. I love the fact that she is a red head of course. But they are such endearing, well-written stories. The character development is phenomenal. Now that I think about it, I think I may read them again.:) "
