Publisher Description

1942: Suzie Mountford, along with her boss and lover Detective Chief Superintendent Tommy Livermore, is on her way to investigate a triple murder: an entire family ruthlessly killed, their faces blasted off with a shotgun. The brutal murders of the Ascoli family are of more than usual interest to the Reserve Squad. Max Ascoli was the barrister who defended Golly Goldfinch, the facially deformed and mentally unstable freak who was captured using Suzie Mountford as a lure. As Suzie pursues a bemusing succession of leads in the current case, she once again confronts exceptional evil.
