The climate crisis may at times appear to be happening slowly, but in fact it is happening very quickly - and has become a true planetary emergency. The Chinese expression for crisis consists of two characters. The first is a symbol for danger; the second is a symbol for opportunity. In order to face down the danger that is stalking the planet and move through it, listeners first have to recognize that they are facing a crisis. So why is it that public leaders seem not to hear such clarion warnings? Are they resisting the truth because they know that the moment they acknowledge it, they will face a moral imperative to act? Is it simply more convenient to ignore the warnings?

Perhaps, but inconvenient truths do not go away just because they are not seen. Indeed, when they are not responded to, their significance doesn't diminish; it grows.

" For those of you who skipped the film or want to know a bit more about Gore's motivations, this is for you. Scary, scary, scary. But really nicely designed and makes for engaging, easy reading about a tough subject. "

" My mom ran into Al Gore Jr jogging, and started a conversation with him. I used to work for him in the Senate when I was in college. He recalled, went to his house and signed a copy he hand on hand. Nothing stops my mom from embarrassing me, not even the Secret Service. "

" This book is beautifully put together; The photography and graphics induce the desired effect, but the lack of listed references and the continual reference to "scientists" as a vague body undermines its weight. I do agree we need to be more responsible as a race. I do not agree that global warming is necessarily 100% true, or such an immediate crisis as to promote such a panicked frenzy. But maybe a panicked frenzy is the only thing that would make people realize that no matter what's going on in our atmosphere, regardless if it would drastically alter the face of the Earth in a radically climate shift, there is no reason not to reduce the waste we put into the air, reduce the dangerous and inefficient emissions that our cars and factories exude, and stop the wanton destruction of wildlife and their habitat. It's just smart. It's just responsible. Just be good. "
