Publisher Description

In this pulse-pounding entry in the New York Times-bestselling series, Nick Mason has become a deadly asset for a new master, the head of an organization far larger than he ever could have imagined.

Nick Mason was released from federal prison to begin a second life as an unwilling assassin, serving a major Chicago crime lord until the day he finally won his freedom. But that freedom was a lie.

Now Mason finds himself on a plane to Jakarta, his life controlled by a vast shadow organization that can cross any international border. He leaves behind everyone he's ever loved, everything he's ever known...Except for one thing: The job. When his phone rings, day or night, he has to answer it, and do whatever he's told. Mason is an exile, forced to live out a nightmare on the other side of the world and the only way home is to keep killing.

This time his target is Hashim Baya, known to his followers as the Crocodile. A phantom money man who finances countless bloody terrorist attacks across the globe, Baya is the most dangerous criminal Mason has ever faced. But Mason's not the only one hunting him. For Martin Sauvage, a tough-as-nails Interpol agent, apprehending Baya has become a personal vendetta. Sauvage wants Baya in prison. Mason's only chance at survival is to put him in a body bag. Assassin and cop are on a collision course leading to a brutal showdown...and to the most shocking revelation of all.

Quotes

  • Exit Strategy

    -
  • “A compelling trek across very dark terrain putting Nick Mason through increasingly pulse-pounding paces with so much non-stop suspense, I read the book in two sittings.

    - Huffington Post
  • “Scene after kinetic scene of pursuit and bloodshed . . . Exit Strategy has more twists and turns than the elevated trains that gave Chicago’s Loop its name, and it goes faster than the Jaguar XK8 that Nick drives. Sometimes acceleration is enough for a fun ride, and a fun read.

    - The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • The book’s brisk prose wondrously sets the tone, starting with, 'You kill one person, it changes you. You kill five ... it’s not about changing anymore.' Think Don Winslow at his coolest, as Hamilton turns up the heat in a bold, bracing and brilliant thriller.

    - The Providence Journal
  • The Second Life of Nick Mason“So good, it legitimately stands shoulder to padded paranoid shoulder with the classics of the crime noir genre.

    - Maureen Corrigan, NPR Fresh Air
  • [A] heart-pounding thriller with cinematic appeal ... Hamilton cleverly imbues the narrative with myriad of twists and turns, allowing the intricate plot to unfold with stunning and extraordinary skill and suspense. From the honor amongst thieves, to the honor amongst those sworn to protect us, to the loyalty among childhood friends and beloved family, multiple worlds collide as Hamilton catapults us into Nick Mason's complex psyche.

    - Esquire.com
  • As fertile as Chicago is for crime fiction, it isn't often that an outsider captures the underside of the local scene as memorably as Steve Hamilton does with The Second Life of Nick Mason ... The novel more than lives up to its hype.

    - Chicago Tribune
