Publisher Description

Two years ago....

Driven by grief to find a cure for cancer, Elizabeth DeMarco left Logan Spencer to accept a position on a research expedition to the Amazon rainforest. Kidnapped by guerrillas, she was saved by a secret all-female civilization, the last of the ancient Amazons. But Elizabeth discovers she's traded one form of captivity for another.

Today....

Logan never stopped searching for Elizabeth. While consulting in the remote Brazilian interior near where she was kidnapped, Logan suffers what should be a fatal fall. Near death, he's collected by the Amazons and magically healed. Elizabeth is the first person he sees as he wakes.

But there's no time for a joyful reunion. The Amazons' mystical medicine is rapidly changing Logan. They want his DNA and plan to take it - and then kill him. Logan and Elizabeth must escape before dawn or Logan - and their second chance at happiness - is doomed.

"I have to say these books have gotten better with each one I have read. I thought Heat Rises was really good and left me guessing as to what was going to happen. The book was well thought out and well written. The Nikki Heat books are definitely for Castle fans and as an avid watcher of the show can see the parallels between the two. My favorite part of the book had to be the Firefly reference so kudos to the author for that. Great read and can't wait to get the next one."

" The Nikki Heat novels just keep getting better! Taking cues from several third season (and earlier) episodes of Castle, it's fun to see Nikki and Rook really working together as partners, and not just a detective with a writer following her. Stakes are definitely high in this one, and by the end it's definitely a "cannot put down" book. "

" I put off reading this book for a long time because the last book (#2) left me a little disappointed. I'm glad I finally forced myself to read this because it's the best one so far! This story had me on the edge of my seat, unable to stop turning pages. It's been a long time since I've read a mystery this compelling. "

" Great adult read! I love how it parallels the show but still has some new twists and turns to it. Who ever is the ghost writer for this book as the characters down pat. After trying to read THE SECRET LIFE OF DAMIAN SPINELLI, this was a refreshing twist as it made sense! Can't wait for the 4 book in the series to come out! "

" Probably the best out of all three Nikki Heat novels. The story was captivating and the twists and turns just wouldn't end. Would have been even better had the ending been a little slower and more clear. All the action in the end was a little discerning. But absolutely loved the book. "

" This was really good. I love the TV show Castle so I feel like I 'get' these characters since they're loosely based on characters from the show. I think folks could enjoy the mystery even if they weren't familiar with the show. "

" It's fun to think of what is in Castle's mind as he writes this and what is in Beckett's mind as she reads it, especially because the book relationship is somewhat different from their "real-life" relationship "

" This was a really great story! I didn't love the first two. They were okay, but not all that compelling and quite wordy and hard to follow at times, but this story was very interesting! I'm now convinced that I want to read the newest one. "
