In this third enchanting collection of stories, James Herriot, the world's most beloved veterinarian, picks up where All Things Bright and Beautiful left off: World War II has begun, and James has been inducted into the RAF. We see him at training camp and we go back with him to Yorkshire - on real trips as he breaks away to see Helen, who is about to have a baby, and on trips of reverie as he recalls the dales, the animals, and the Yorkshire people who have so enriched his life.

We meet old friends again - his partner Siegfried, the zany Tristan, the bon vivant Granville Bennett - and scores of new folk, each with a story to tell. James Herriot is back and, as one reviewer said of his work, If ever you have loved a friend, human or otherwise, these stories are for you. Download and start listening now!

" I loved reading about his military experience. He made me want to join a boot camp fitness class. However, the author then suddenly goes into farm experiences about putting older animals to sleep. I got a little confused. I started to skip paragraphs. I also didn't make sense of the dialogue. Mr. Herriot is a good writer, but I give it three stars because the reminiscing between military and farm was too confusing for me. "

" Harriot shows up what the Yorkshire countryside is like through his delightful depictions of the people, landscape, and the animals. This story is set during WWII when he learn to fly with the RAF...it seems each time he enters a new adventure in the RAF his mind wanders off to the hills and dales of his home county. A wonderful read for anyone who enjoys the voice of a story teller. "
