The Cheesemans are a family on the run. Mr. Cheeseman and his late wife invented a device so powerful and amazing that all sorts of evildoers want to get their greedy hands on it. Mr. Cheeseman and his three children must keep their identities secret and stay one step ahead of the villains as they run from town to town, escape dangerous situations, even change their names. Luckily, though they may not have the names they were born with, they do have their smarts - and quite a bit of good luck. They'll soon encounter a bunch of unusual but helpful characters, some of whom are really far more than they appear to be.

The first of these characters is Dr. Cuthbert Soup. He not only runs the National Center for Unsolicited Advice, he also serves as narrator for this madcap adventure story, offering a word or two of wisdom from time to time. Sometimes, Dr. Soup even has four words - like now: Listen to this book.

" I really enjoyed this second book that involves the adventures of the Cheeseman family. It involves the pirates that they met in the first book. They traveled back in time to return the white gold chalice that the pirates stole from the duke of jutland in denmark. Interesting new characters that have a lot of depth. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Victoria Whipple | 2/7/2014

" In this book, we meet up again with the Cheeseman family, who have travelled back in time to help out some friends and try to save Olivia Cheeseman, wife and mother, from her untimely death. Ethan Cheeseman, the patriarch of the family, is a brilliant scientist who invented a time machine. In the first book, the villains who want to get their hands on the time machine are introduced, and here we see one of them follow the Cheesemans back in time. There are many odd characters and situations, but the action is non-stop. The metaficional narration by Dr. Cuthburt Soup is clever and funny. The characters are odd and endearing, and the plot is so ridiculous it's convincing. A good, fun romp for all grades 3+ "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Michael M | 2/6/2014

" I liked this story a lot because of its funny characters, random plot turns and, of course, the sock puppet. I thought that all the characters were enjoyable and had their own sense of humor. Sometimes, after a chapter, there would be a little after note. These were always funny. Mr. Cheeseman and his family go through many adventures to rescue Their dead mother, Olivia, using a time machine. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes humor tied in with lots of adventure. "
