Simon Darcourt, an inventive killer with a sense of humour, is creating his own celebrity talent show, one that is generating more publicity than its contestants have ever had in their lives. The catch is that those lives won't be very long.

The police turn to Angelique de Xavia, a cop who has crossed his path before. However, the police are not the only people who want Darcourt. Now she's faced not only with tracking him down, but also with the task of ensuring she doesn't end up dead once she's served her purpose.

Scared and alone, Angelique knows she's got a snowball's chance of pulling this off, which is why she's going to need a little magic... Download and start listening now!

" A five star read withot a doubt. This is Christopher Brookmyre at his best with characters from previous novels. Black humour with an attack on the cult of celebrity at its best! "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Teddy | 2/2/2014

" This was a very irreverent book, but there were several parts where I actually laughed out loud. I wouldn't call it comedy, but I definitely like the author's sense of humor. "

" Loved it!I really must start from the beginning.I could not put this book down and it finished within a couple of hours and many coffees! "

" What an amazing book. I love Christopher Brookmyre, and rarely get the chance to get any of his books, so while in Scotland I scooped this up. It is probably more of a 4.5 star book but give it the extra half just because I very infrequently get to read one of his books. The return of some of my favourite characters, including Simon Darcourt, the best villain of any Brookmyre book! The story was fun (even at it's darkest). I want to go back and re-read some of his other books now. "

" Need to read a couple of his earlier books to know who all the characters are, but a good bringing together of different story lines started in previous books... "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Jonathan Hutchins | 1/15/2014

" Cracking stuff: ingenious, witty, satirical, enjoyable. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Andrew Gosling | 12/30/2013

" Not his best, but still an enjoyable holiday read. I thought it started a bit slowly, but was worth sticking with. "

" I don't like Zal Innez as a character and sadly that got in the way of the story for me. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Sarah | 11/16/2013

" Different & well worth reading if you're looking for a bit of a change from a genre rut you may be in "

" I really enjoy his stuff, and this one is dark, funny, and very twisty (and twisted). Also, it was a Christmas gift, so even better. :) "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Iain | 4/30/2013

" Another of Brookmyre's witty crime thrillers. Great charactisation and satire. Not for those who find the use of "graphical" language offensive! "

" I loved this - funny, exciting and really quite nasty at times. Keeps you guessing. The two main charcters Zal and Angelique have appeared in other books and I was really hoping for them to get it together which added a lot of heart to the book. Some real laugh out loud moments. I think he's great! "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Caroline | 7/19/2012

" Definitely not the best Brookmyre has to offer. His usual Scottish humour was nowhere to be found. I was looking forward to the return of these characters, and I suppose the plot in general was something I could have pictured. But it just wasn't carried out with the usual wit. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Rachel | 3/12/2012

" Not my favourite Brookmyre. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Abigail | 2/1/2011

" A very good Brookmyre book, th second of his that I've read. Brilliant in the fact that you can't see how it's going to end until the end! That seems to be something Brookmyre has a knack for. "

" I enjoyed the last third a lot more than the rest of the book. I was a bit disappointed because I really like Angelique de Xavia and Zal Innez and I didn't like the way the story was going, but things got faster and more unexpected at the end and I rather enjoyed it. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Gavin | 7/29/2009

" Masterful misdirection and an engaging plot kept me gripped to the end. Combined with Brookmyre's biting commentary on the worst of consumer voyeurism and reality TV, this made for a great read. Definitely not one for the faint-hearted though. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Scotchneat | 7/14/2009

" A serial killer. B-List celebrities. Some of Brookmyre's most scathing social satire to-date. Agent X is out to get her groove back.

I enjoyed this one quite a bit, but it's not for the squeamish. "
