It is Halloween night, and the local museum in King's Lynn is preparing for an unusual event - the opening of a coffin containing the bones of a medieval bishop. But when Ruth Galloway arrives to supervise, she finds the museum's curator lying dead beside the coffin. It is only a matter of time before she and DI Nelson cross paths once more, as he is called in to investigate. Soon the museum's wealthy owner lies dead in his stables too. These two deaths could be from natural causes but Nelson isn't convinced. When threatening letters come to light, events take an even more sinister turn. But as Ruth's friends become involved, where will her loyalties lie? As her convictions are tested, she and Nelson must discover how Aboriginal skulls, drug smuggling and the mystery of The Dreaming may hold the answer to these deaths, and their own survival.

" Fourth in the "Ruth Galloway Mystery" series: highly atmospheric, cleverly plotted and consistently well-written. "

" I love Elly Griffiths books, especially the Ruth Galloway series. Always enjoy the occult tinge to the books, but this seemed short, not a lot of depth and Ruth was a little frantic in the book. I hope eventually she gets together with Nelson. :) "

" Ruth Galloway is one of my favorite characters. I have read and enjoyed her previous adventures and this book is just as enjoyable. I am looking forward to reading about her in the future. "

" Another enjoyable murder/mystery with Dr Ruth Galloway, which was up to the same standard as the previous three novels. I'm just hoping that Elly Griffiths hurries up and writes another installment. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Vera | 10/20/2013

" Another great read in this series. I love seeing Ruth as a working mother, especially since she has to make arrangements for babysitters, and have backup plans like in real life, not like in some books and shows where the kid(s) only show up for mom to play with and then leave on cue so the story can move forward. "

" The latest installment to this series is less a mystery and more about the relationships of the characters. To say anything more would be a spoiler. "
