Publisher Description

This is another beautifully crafted and nurturing Burnett tale about a young girl growing up, learning humility and compassion...the hard way. Sara Crewe's young life is filled with wealth and pampering. But when her father dies in India and his wealth is lost, like a hot-house plant cast into the snow her life is reduced to shear survival. Turned into a beggar, her courage and strong-will are all she inherited from her father. This proves to be of greater value than riches as she finds the strength of character needed to help herself and two pitiful compatriots out of the depths of poverty.

"I can't remember the first time I read this However, even re-reading it as a teenager, it still drew me in and left me with a content, positive outlook on life. I hope this is one of the first books my children will read if I ever have any, and I hope they will love it as much as I did (and do)"

" This is a sweet book with a good story line, and good moral. I can understand why this is a children's classic and I think it is better enjoyed as a kid, than as an adult. I really appreciated the direction the book took in showing how this little girl didn't sink when placed in extremely difficult position, she never sunk under the negativity of the people around her. She found the blessings and beauty and amplified it with her imagination to endure this difficult time. I feel like adults reading this, the story and characters seemed to be pretty black and white, without many shades of gray. The main character seems to be more perfect than any child would actually ever be. But that also adds to part of the charm. "

" I loved this story, so very much. What little girl at some point hasn't thought themselves both princess and pauper? Little Sara is the darling of every fairytale chance possible, making even 'grown-up' girls wish to be just like her. It is definitely a story worth reading multiple times. "
